I believe that commercial was actually based on an Italian or Spanish ad. In the ad the woman's husband, who was white, was a dirty slob or a nerdy guy, I can't remember, gets turned into black man after she puts him a washer with a detergent for bringing out the color in clothes. It's supposed to be like she made him cooler or something like that.

Hey Korey. So this is a Thai commercial. I’m ethnically Thai so here’s the context lol…Thailand is a VERY racist country towards blacks. You see a black man with a Thai girl and everyone will give them the mean side eye without a second thought. That toothpaste is a special toothpaste that happens to be the same color as the man. So…well just cause the toothpaste is brown doesn’t mean it’s bad for you. It’s very helpful! Very messed up way of saying it but there you have it 🤷‍♂️

The irony to all of this discussion about black men not being portrayed as good-looking is that, for the longest time now, people have taken note that Asian men generally aren't allowed to be shown as sexy in western media. You got black celebrities like Denzel being ranked as some of the most attractive men in the world even back during the 80s & 90s. But in order for an Asian man to be a lead in Hollywood, most of the time, he needs to know martial arts. Accented Cinema recently made a video about this.

As a black who has travelled many Asian countries, they get their racism from American racial stereotyping and Hollywood because they were only exposed to white western culture. Curiously Hollywood never export any black TV shows of black led movies to the Asian region, so this created massive ignorance about black people in many Asian countries because all they saw of black people that they were criminals or gangsters for many decades. But in the last 10 or 15 years thanks to internet and Asians being exposed to more positive black culture, you can definitely see a slight changing in attitudes towards black people in younger generations of Asians now that they are exposed to more black culture than previous generations and more black people and students live in Asian countries. I certainly notice more Asian girls are attracted to black guys than every before due to this.

@@GeekOwtLowd that's exactly where it comes from. I watched a Korean KZbin video where the Korean interviewer walked around questioning the locals. He asked them their perception of black people, and it was the regular stereotypes, we were thugs, drug dealers, rappers and dangerous. They admitted they got these stereotypes from American media.
@Delboy0
@Delboy0 Жыл бұрын
@@GeekOwtLowd please stop this American Hollywood lie that Black culture was not exported to Asia for economic reasons. Hollywood has an agenda to promote white western culture and deliberately stopped black shows and films being released in Asian territories. Black Panther was the first Black led movie to be release in Asian countries and that was 2018 and it got record box office all over Asia. These is these great video by the KZbin channel Asian Boss and they interviewed cinema goers in China, Japan and South Korea after they had just seen Black Panther and all people they interviewed said it was the first time they had seen a black led movie in the cinema and never seen black people portrayed like that before and all of them said how attractive the black men and women were in the film and didn’t know how sexy black people could be. This shows the power of Hollywood and how they have been shaping negative perceptions of black people in Asia for 40 years. If Black culture doesn’t sell in Asia, why is NBA so popular in Asia and R&B and hip-hop is so big in Asia? Most of K-pop Black music appropriation from the beats to the dancing. And the two most bankable American actors in Asia are Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, black actors because The younger generation of Asians are tired of seeing white guy heroes and prefer to see men of colour as heroes.

It comes from not seeing black ppl as human beings. Still, in today's world their is a lack of basic empathy when it comes to black ppl. For some reason, ppl can't just think that this is a human being, just like I am, who has many of the same thoughts, worries, and wants as I do. I can get if a small child would be this ignorant, but from full-blown adults, it really blows my mind, but racism isn't a rational thing.

I still think that the people upset over the casting in Ghost in the Shell never bothered to actually understand that the character Scar Jo was playing is a freaking cyborg with a fully prosthetic body. Her character could literally look like ANYONE and it would technically be accurate to the lore of the anime/manga. Also, the creator of the Ghost in the Shell series even stepped in and said that the whitewash claims were baseless, since the Major's appearance/identity is an assumed one, and that Scar Jo was the best possible actress to play Major Kusanagi, so the outrage against the casting is doubly pointless.

@@eXistenZ1864 Ah, okay. Well, from what I can look up about the Super Saiyan look, the creator gave him blonde hair because it was easier to draw for his assistant. But, that's all I could find. Yeah, Dragon Ball went pretty bonkers after Z ended.

I understand what the first commercial was trying to do and it was messed up by racism but this is the story. This guy going home goes plast this place were kids keep loosing their balloons. Like a good man, he gets the balloon it the kids or parents think he is bad/ugly/sick and don’t want them near their children. So he does this everyday and has a bunch of balloons in his room. He is sad and goes to sleep. The black outside is good inside just like the product (I think it is a mint bean so it looks dark like chocolate but is minty). That means they messed up the following: - Basic racism biology fail - Black peoples are people not capable of being monkeys. - Hero is dressed like that to complete the color metaphors at the end but it is off for the setting and leaves the idea that black folk naturally wear sports outfits (If I have to explain why that is stupid …) - They did not complete the story telling assuming the viewer would fill in the blanks -it where he was coming from so you can draw all the WRONG assumptions from there - They assumed the racism of the viewer (come on!) - They did not have the hero use tools or a belt to climb a much more rational distance (it’ll the distance was a joke distortion but made it worst as…) - The commercial assumes super human animal traits to brown skinned humans. (AKA “the commercial writer WAS. Racist sorta the reason why he made the assumptions above) - The many balloons can be seen like maybe he is looking for kids (Chester vibe) - The entire black skin is black item is not something that is going to ever work out not insulting. Now as to anime and race - this is something that is a topic all it’s own. Look it up on KZbin but mostly they use accents, names and clothing to place a character just as often as the skin tone. It is a style thing that is completely cultural. There is some colorism in the Eastern and SEA culture that was a think before they ran into many direct contacts with Europeans (Rome and China knew each other but not like they had embassies). That colorism was re-Enforced and taken advantage of by Europeans and then even in beauty products (I think Japan hopped on that 1st). I don’t know how those in those countries see themselves but they certainly have equated white movie stars with glamor.

Could the toothpaste ad be that, people think that since the toothpaste is black it will make your teeth dirtier, but it actually helps clean them?

Many of the Africans (whether immigrants or children of immigrants) in these commercials weren't raised around the concept of racism and racial bias like we were, so there usually don't see the issue with the commercials. Some of them simply don't believe that it applies to them, thinking it's just an "American issue". They honestly don't see just how offensive these advertisements are, and it's hard to convince some of them otherwise.

Some companies are run by people that are supported by racist groups who makes their paychecks. They're not going to give up their job and they just don't care. Plus some people don't think it's offensive and that's the weird part about it.
