God's love encompasses discipline and anger. Slow to anger but he does get angry too... God's love encompasses so much. The problem is that ppl don't research into what and how the Bible was written. Linguistics and grammar do matter. God never promised and easy road but we are to walk in faith and lean on God and His Word. We need him. If we could do it ourselves we wouldn't need God.

Hey Alisa, have you heard of Jinger Vuolo (formerly Duggar) and how she came out of the legalistic sect she grew up in and went through a sort of “reconstruction” or reorganization of her faith? She’s recently come out with a book about it all and it would be amazing if you could do an interview with her. It’s a subject that strikes close to home concerning “deconstruction” and separating from misguided or false forms of Christianity.

Have progressive christians ever met parents? Parents love their children fiercely but will discipline and feel anger when their children wrong them. Why would God be any different? Isn't God worthy of our love? God's love language is obedience and repentance but if we don't do that, why do we think God should always be loving? I love what you read... "God is wrathful because of love!" It's a love we can never understand. But God deserves our love too and we should strive to make him happy lest we get his wrath!
@StageWatcher Жыл бұрын
Sadly, many progressives view parental discipline as an expression of hatred. We are in an upside-down culture that removes children from the authority of parents and tells them that whatever they want is right. They are taught that their carnal desires are their identity, and that anything that opposes those desires is unloving. I would say that it is ironic how this progressive worldview actually fosters great hatred towards people who are genuinely trying to help them, but I think it's clear that this is by design, not coincidence.

Faith is Trust in God and Jesus, but as you are in your own words an atheist and do not believe in any God (that is have any trust in God) then it would not, But as shown in the NT disbelieve is passive (not active, just there) But unbelieve is active and is also shown whenever Jesus asks someone "Do you believe?" they will say "Yes Lord I believe, help my Unbelieve" and Jesus" said Go in peace your faith has saved you." Jesus can and will respond to that request, if asked in truth he will not reject. And in truth is the key, you can lie to me, you can lie to Google, but you can not lie to God.

Have you noticed what this Yugoslavian theologian did? It goes always the same way. To justify God being wrathful, he had to bring up the worst atrocities imaginable, where hundreds of thousands of people were brutally tortured and murdered. Yet who can justify God being wrathful to the point of burning you alive day and night without rest when you are not a murderous psychopath who is responsible for thousands of people being tortured and murdered, when your worst sins were watching porn, some occasional dishonesty, some minor stealing and that are pretty much it? So the problem of God's wrath is still unanswered, it is still on the table, it is still a mystery what is really going on.
@WendyWzOpinion Жыл бұрын
I think the problem is that we (humans) struggle to understand the way God sees sin. Sin (any sin great or small) has one thing in common: it separates us from God. There are only two options for a human-toward God or away from Him. Sin turns us away from God…even small sins. (See Isaiah 64:6, John 8:24 and Romans 3:9-26) We only seem to understand wrath in the light of “atrocities” but to God, all sin is choosing to turn away from God, bringing us toward wrath. That’s why salvation through faith and trust in Jesus Christ is so beautiful! He takes the wrath we keep turning toward so we don’t have to receive it. Like a shepherd redirecting wayward sheep. And because we love Him so much for that work on our behalf, we try in our flawed human way to obey Him and keep turning away from sins (of any size) and moving toward God instead. That’s what the word repent means. Doing an about face away from our sins, atrocious or not, and moving toward God instead. Atrocities are merely an illustration we can understand demonstrating God’s holy, just (and therefore loving) nature.
@nikokapanen82 Жыл бұрын
@@WendyWzOpinion It does not explain why burning a sinner in flames of fire forever. Why not discipline him to behave properly? Remember what God did to a prideful king Nebuchadnezzar? He chastised him for 7 years and humbled him down so that Nebuchadnezzar gave all glory and praise to God eventually. Now that is a righteous punishment!! Such punishment makes all sense in the world. Mindless torment without end makes no sense at all.

@@desertdinghy9833 As a former consumer of porn, I do understand it is harmful and sinful. Yet the point is, imagine a father who has an 18 years old son who lives with him, then imagine this father would catch his son watching porn one day. Now would that grieve the father? Absolutely, would the father get upset and discipline his son in one way or another? Sure but can you imagine this father getting into unquenched wrath and rage and fury and desire to burn his son in flames of fire forever and ever without any mercy at all? So the issue is not getting upset at sin, it is understandable, the issue is rather how come the anger escalates so quickly to such unimaginable proportions? Why not discipline sinners with some humane punishment, as God did to king Nebuchadnezzar? Why not strike sinners with some illnesses for example? I am not blaming God by the way, I am simply coming to a conclusion that something deeper is going on that people cannot fathom right now.

Yes, this. In this video, we heard how God has the justified right to get wrathful when seeing how the worst atrocities in our world are happening where thousands and thousands of people are brutally tortured and murdered. Yet what about the rest of the world, billions of people who never murder or torture one human being, what about 13 years old Muslim girl whose worst sins are using some bad words, maybe some occasional dishonesty, and maybe some minor stealing. Why we are not wrathful towards such a girl to the point of desiring to burn her alive day and night without rest? Is it because we are that much eviler than God? Will God tell us "you did not desire to burn her alive because you are such wicked demons yourself who all deserve to burn" Is it like that? I am convinced it isn't.

Alisa, this thought came to me when you pointed out the progressive paradox as it relates to social justice and not God's justice. Look at these stances in terms of authority.
