I'll give it another go on Whoa. I'm only on NG+1 and had a maxed out set with trinkets and I was getting rinsed quick, especially from my own summons. The funny thing was that when I did get soldier ants, half of them would attack the web sacks. I was getting one shotted by my own mant when he'd spawn on top of me.

For NG+2/3: Start on mild/medium, then swap to "WHOA!" when there are 1/2/3 mAnts spawned.

To everyone saying it doesn't work It only works on the higher ng from like around ng3-4 The damage being dealt is way more so thorns works way better You're better off doing things the normal way unless you're already at the higher ng levels

I've tested this, Attempting to fight even hedge broodmother on Woah difficulty is one shot if you miss your block

It seems like this will work in higher ng+ worlds but the summon damage just doesnt scale up enough to reproduce your strategy in 1 or 2 worlds.

the moment CDiinky realises this is the build chat and i were trying to tell him use on NG+2 or 3 when he was struggling with completing it on whoa mode and had to go down to mild. Now 4 days later, he realises what chat was saying....and turns it to content, there was already a video shared in chat on that day, give that guy some love for finding it

This build is good to abuse for grinding bosses for upgrades and multiple boss sets once you've done them the first time though. If you're just grinding boss parts and want it done and dusted quickly, or you want to do the same boss multiple times, very useful.

It’s important to note that this will only work effectively (or at all really) in NG+4 and beyond The boss doesn’t do enough damage in the lower game modes back at itself with Thorns to kill it

In NG+2 (atleast against the mantis) it can be done, it is just slightly easier than an actual fight.

Additionally for the build you can use hyperexaustion max assassin perk and apex predator with the mantis blade for even faster speed

Ok so basically you need to put in on woah mode I suggest putting it woah mode when all your summons spawn

Pretty sure you could boost it more by using the bard's bow and apex predator so you also summon wasps too. Also, what happens if you use apex predator on the ant septer/staff?

I’ve done this on NG+ 1 and its not without risk. The scream from the BM will 1 shot you still in a lot of cases the summons are rng, I had all possible summons equipped with a bow build and it took 10+ arrows for my first summon (obviously unlucky but possible) melee is super risky too because 1-2 accidental hits on your summon will kill you. He’s on NG+ 7 so the bosses do even more ludicrous damage which is making them die quicker this isn’t AS effective on NG+ 1-3 but still strong you’re effectively a glass cannon since red ant strategist is T1 armor

I use this build all the time for bosses. I started NG+4 yesterday and ended up getting an infused dagger with summon thorns on it from the Broodmother. I hope they don't ever nerf this. It's so satisfying being able to kill the mantis in like 30 seconds😂

This is 100% the kind of thing where its like "If you try this a couple thousand times, it will accidently work once". The boss has aggro'ed on my summons 1 single time in about 45 attempts, and the time it actually worked wasn't even that time, it just felt like complete and absolute luck. Like yes, this does work, but its at the odds of having to roll 5 D20 dice and getting a 20 on all of them. You will probably burn out your harddrive from all of the autosaves before you actually kill all 4 bosses this way.

yeah this is probably ng+ 4 or higher depending on mutations on enemies because im on MILD in ng+1 and i tried 12 times and this did NOT work because i died every time and the most damage i saw the mantis take was about 3 health bars and i saw about 3 ants 4 spiderlings and the mant going at it on 1 of the try's

I honestly think this build is more balanced than the entirety of the ng+. Yes. Its overpowered, but its tier 1 armor... its a glass cannon all the way that gets more powerful against bosses and more dangerous for you as you progress through the various ng+.

Tried it before going to NG+. The results were pretty much garbage. The summon thorns work great when I hit them, but it does absolutely nothing against IBM. So it might only be a NG+ build

Honestly I think they shouldn’t nerf it. It ultimately is just stacking effects and how they pan out, plus it’s fun having way to cheese bosses like this (though I also imagine that for less skilled players getting into NG + or even the base bosses this could be a lifesaver).

You wanna stack the thorns, with red ant set you’re at 3 stacks of thorns, and a trinket with it can get it to 4, amplifying then damage allowing for the one shots

I have everything exactly how he does. It doesn't work at all. So it's either patched already (doubtful), he's bugged somehow, or there's some unknown factor in play that we can't see. Long story short, it doesn't work even on mild.

ONLY works efficiently on woah mode. The damage output of the boss,on the highest difficulty, is higher, thus more reflected damage. It is doable on medium but much more random and longer.

Fun Fact, if you use the red ant shield and the compliance badge, you are basically immortal due to the summons spawning from the corrosion somehow and taking the argro for ANYTHING. I tested this on the infected brood mother and due to how fast she attacks you, it was almost impossible not to get hit by my summon, but then healing to full just form the shear chaos. I decided not to use this though, because I hate the low defense, meaning most of 1-2 non parried attacks in a row meant certain death :D

When I try to upgrade the armor, it only have "summon acid" and no "summon thorns" so it doesn't work well. Is that fire ant armor or another I don't have yet? Is there any way to switch upgrade armor effects? On my armor, circles are green and not blue like yours. I don't understand why.

how do you name the ant? The game won't let me name the red ant. I am on my first playthrough. I put the game down like a year ago and now I am trying to beat the game and get into new game plus. Also, I have a question. Do you still have to go around and collect some of the trinkets like the old days and without having to look them up are their hints or? I have searched like the entire garbage area up outside of the sandbox and found only spicy, mint and like a scab with some science.
