the issue i find is that in order to counter air vehicles you either have to use an air vehicle yourself, sit stationary in an AA gun which not much people find fun or engaging, or coordinate with other players on your team and focus fire which not many people seem to want to do. so most matches you end up with air vehicles decimating everything while noone is willing to actually band together to deal with them

@@MrZombert They where active during WW2.... this is WW1 bombers did not have the large impact it would have later on. A quarter of the brittish planes to give an example never even got to the bombing targets and those that did reach it in many cases missed them. Id argue in many ways strategic bombing and such was more impactfull on morale than in destructive value. Even fighter planes did not have the same scope, use and functionality it would later have. This was the war when planes first started to be used and doctrines formed to begin with. So they where no op... in many countries during the war there where lots of voices against continuing with bombraids and such due to costs and lack of results.

Totally agree with you, Jack. Yesterday I took the heavy bomber just to troll people, because i knew it was so bad. I've seen a half of an enemy team caping a flag. I dropped my bombs and got a freaking 13x multikill. I kept playing with heavy bomber for the entire round and ended up as 72:0 on the leaderboard. The best thing about this plane is the ridiculous amount of damage it can take. From now on, it's my default plane.

Watching this two years in the future and just yesterday I left a game of conquest because there was a heavy bomber player with 47 service stars and a fighter player with 26 that kept curb stomping whatever enemy team you’re unfortunate enough to be on.

In my experience you need a dedicated team to keep the heavy bomber alive. If you don't at LEAST have a tail gunner and a repairman with you, your kinda screwed. So no I don't think this plane is OP as it is very easy to shoot down with lmgs and AA.

TBH this footage looks either staged or the enemy team Jack got is totally braindead. Normally as soon as you spawn in the Ilya every support is locked on you and the thing is shredded by AA, AA-rocket guns and LMG's (other planes not so often but it happens) in max. 2 minutes. In order to stay airbourne in this thing you need a complete crew or at least a mate (you speak to) to repair and defend you.

This bomber is like an elite class, you have to take them down quickly or in the right hands can be absolutely ridiculous. And end up the game for your team. So the trick is not to let bombers in the sky. Every map - mainly in Operations - I run to the closer AA gun and take down at least one plane fastest I can. Depending on the map and the skill of the pilot the MG15 is quite useful too.

The reason this plane takes so much damage is that the Ilya Muromets was meant to be a commercial transport plane. No aircraft of the time had armor but logically those constructed for military use would be built tougher than civilian models. Fun fact it's designer Igor Sikorsky was also instrumental in creating the helicopter as we know it today

It's 2023 and I play with a couple of squads that jump into my bomber to hitch a ride to the opponents flags (conquest) they all jump off to capture it while I bomb tf out of approaching enemies. It's hilarious and frustrating for the other team. We flip the map in less than a minute most times lol. IDK why no one ever gets on AA gun to shoot me down most of the time.

i like aa, gotten multiple messages that i am a noob for using them ( have to admit, i shot the guy 6 times). But why ad them if you are not supposed to use them? 1 good aa gunner can rule the sky and save a map! bombers like you, easyest target on a map!

Actually, given that you often had gunners and a passenger repairing, a decent aim on the front cannon and didn't fly at sea level like a newb, you survived longer than most do in bombers. OP? Well... it seems to be a roll of the dice whether or not you get the single opportunity. It's more of a random gift so long as people aren't sitting in the menu's waiting for it to spawn like asshats (not looking at anyone.. JACK!) ^_^

I can’t really agree considering on most maps the bombers are SUPER easy to shoot down and usually do get shot down immediately. The spawns of planes are limited to one or two, and most people opt for the fighters or attack planes, and in one pass, either of those crafts can take out a bomber. High risk high reward imo.

Last time I had a run with 178 - 7 or so in a operation with it and already have 2100 kills with the heavy in just a few days and I can say its VERY strong at the moment, I think too strong. BUT the AA damage against this thing is also completly overpowered. I mean yea, you should be able to take down a heavy bomber with AA, but not in 4 seconds after beginning to shoot. There is just nothing you can do against an AA, no matter if you have repairs or not or if you have skill in a plane or not. And thats not very fun to play even if you have tons of kills. My suggestion would be lowering the damage of the bomber, the area of effect is okey but maybe less damage output per grenade. And for that you need to nerf AA and LMG against it the bomber. It should be more skillbased, and now its just either you get through and do 10x multikills, or you are down in 5 secs and cant do zero. There should be a better balance here, bomber should last longer and shouldnt be able to get taken out by just 1 flak assault and 1 LMG guy on the ground and for that, you deal less damage. That would be just the right thing to do, maybe like this commentary if you agree and want the same solution! Cheers :)

I remember back in the day when BF4 was in beta, and people were arguing that the 50Cal Sniper is too OP and that DICE needs to make sure that you can't replenish its ammo to keep it balanced. Now in the BF1 days we have elite classes with more armor and can replenish their ammo, bombers that can wipe out teams, and random one-shot-chest-shot deaths from snipers. I say "Balance" was thrown out of the window a long time ago in this game. The Battlefield franchise needs to cut down on the cheese, a guy like me that played battlefield for so long can handle it, but to new players its extremely frustrating and keeps them from coming back to the game.

I know I'm late, but.. "Too many explosions" is kind of World War 1 in a nutshell, isn't it? Majority of all deaths in WW1 was from explosions, not bullets.
