Based in part on Chris’ recommendation, I bought a Reise & Müller e-bike about two years ago from my local e-bike specialty shop, tricked out with all the high end options like this one. It was indeed very expensive, compared to typical e-bikes. But I was intentionally buying this bike as a car replacement, and it has indeed replaced the vast majority of my car trips, and our family has gone from being a two car household to a one car household. For me, the comfort, utility, durability, reliability, and low maintenance needs made this a great choice. If you are shopping for an e-bike to ride occasionally just for fun, R&M might be more expensive than it is worth for that. But if you are in the market for an e-bike as practical transportation, potentially replacing one of your family’s cars, R&M bikes are a great option!

SUVization of the bike market is complete. take this model: ultra heavy, ultra motorized, ultra comfy, ultra expensive, ultra revenue-generating, ultra complicated to maintain; it takes everything that's great about bikes and chucks that right out of the window, to keep the race for the fattest, meanest, most ultra everything vehicle going! how truly courageous these companies are, appealing to the eternal 10-year old in every one of us!

I had a bad rear wheel skid on a citibike on an unexpected patch of wet asphalt. I let the brake go and the bike righted itself just in time. A less experienced rider would have fallen. ABS would have been nice in that situation.

As a senior, I’d certainly appreciate that suspension system on my battered body.😄 Easy brakes are nice for arthritic hands, too. Ah, but my SS income can’t afford this right now. 😕 That said, I truly believe that the price of an e-bike is cheaper than cardiac bypass surgery, hey? So I have an e-bike, but just a basic one. No suspension, but it does have hydraulic brakes. It keeps me going and helps my bad knees. I also get some cardio, run errands, and getting out in nature sure helps my mental health.

You could consider adding a suspension seatpost which might help
@chow-chihuang49036 күн бұрын
If you get a suspension seatpost, get one that uses a 4-arm linkage rather than one that just moves up and down (telescoping). I tried one of those telescoping ones because they’re cheaper (~$40) and lighter, but it kept punishing my damaged knee whenever a bump coincided with putting my weight on that leg. That’s because the motion goes completely into shortening the distance between saddle and pedal. It may not be an issue if you don’t put any weight on your pedals. The linkage types move the saddle mostly backwards with some motion downwards. They don’t shock my knees nearly as much, so I think they’re worth the additional cost and weight. Decent ones can often be found for sale just below $100.

In my experience with a Reise-Mueller e bikeyou get a bike that is well designed and built . More expensive but worth it if you are a high volume cyclist . I have a > 30 mile daily commute in Connecticut . I cycle almost every day unless the snow plows running. I came home last night , in the rain and was very glad to be riding my Reise Mueller It happens to be a nevo w a belt drive and when all was said and done I paid $7,500. It is worth it. The lights are incredibly good. The ride is smooth and steady. The kick stand works even when I overload the panniers . The shifting is great. This is my third e bike my first was a Raleigh and then I had a custom kit bike during covid but they both needed chains replaced as well as cassettes every couple thousand miles . They were quite expensive to maintain . With a reise mueller you get what you pay for. I have 6,500 miles on mine and I love it even (especially)in a pitch black rainy. night ride. I hardly use my car and we are thinking of becoming a 1 vehicle family.

To all about to complain about the price, consider: - this is ~10% of the up-front cost price of a luxury vehicle, and FAR less in on-going costs. - whoever buys this may now mostly or completely ride a bike instead of that car - money goes to what seems like one of the most ethical bike companies instead of a car company - supports the tech, should come down in price and models later

AAA says that typical car in 2024 costs $1100 per month to own. Depreciation, loan, insurance, license, maintenance, gas etc. 12 x 1100 = $13,200/year.
@RedBeardedRabbit6 күн бұрын
@@gordonmorrow4720 Indeed, the total annual personal cost of vehicle ownership is not just very high, but also NOT well known and understood by many. I don't know the numbers for a budget or used, reliable smaller vehicle, but even at half that it's quite high This doesn't even count the immense infrastructure costs (paid by everyone's taxes, including those who don't drive, not gas tax) and depressing negative externalities caused by motor vehicles...

It looks like a suspension system for sure. What about a turn signal, or ability to haul a tag-a-long, or kids seat. The 20K weight limit on rear is a bit low, only 2 peddle assist were mentioned? The lower motor assembly looks sloppy, where mud and moisture can stick vital areas of motor. I expect a >7K$ bike to fill those basic requirements. Clearly an option for entry level e-bike user with more money. Such a shame to waste a great drive motor and auto shift combo on.
