What a lot of people miss is that Synchro was the first easily accessible extra deck monster type. Fusions weren’t nearly as easy to bring out and players at the time were slow to adopt this logic.

Back in 2009, everyone wanted DSF banned, but no one really thought Konami would do it. It being a holo in a new pack, the rarity of cards going directly from 3 to 0 back then, and just Konami’s general banlist incompetence kinda made everyone think it was hopeless. The collective relief when it got banned was palpable.

Dark Strike Fighter...the nightmare for players dealing with going 2nd plays. This terror was frightening with Blackwing and special summoning dark monsters. I can't tell you how many of us had no choice but scoop once we recognized the synchro plays...

DSF's Anime effect was much worse than its TCG effect. It needed a Machine Tuner and wasnt generic. How it warped into a generic Synchro was also so funny to me.

It also couldn't attack for the turn if it used its effect. So...the errata it got IRL is basically matching it to how it functioned in the anime, just without the whole "can't attack the turn it used its effect" part. Which makes you wonder why Konami decided to take a PERFECTLY BALANCED card and make it a BROKEN FTK MACHINE

Reactors are a failure from the beginning. Majority of 5Ds archetypes are absolute garbage and basically need the vampire treatment of overhaul and remake the archetype

We have some! The problem is that it'd need to be Errata'd to work with its current support. "Ignoring summoning conditions" does not override "must first be special summoned by" and so its entire support is kinda pointless lmao. Cool boss monster though.

Two things. 1. Fun fact Greiger (Reactor user that I hate became a Dark Signer. Seriously it should've been Armstrong instead. Who wanted to make Yusei pay for getting him fired and his duel runner was stolen from Sector Security. Sorry about the tangent BTW) in the anime summoned this thing with the combo Rata mentioned when roasting Dark Flattop (Using Black Salvo to bring back Trap Reactor Y Fi) And Yusei destroyed it with Junk Warrior that was equipped with Armory Arm (Another card from the 5D'S anime that also got an errata. Which Cap mentioned in his video about Fish OTK) And 2. It's also proof that the errata could be worse. As there DSF couldn't attack the turn it used its effect.

DSF also was once per turn in the anime. And given that it couldn't attack, that would mean if it did attack, then you couldn't use its effect, meaning its effect in the anime was also during MP1 only. So...Konami basically errata'd the card to be just like how it behaved in the anime, minus the "can't attack if effect was used" part. Which just begs the question that if the card was balanced in the anime, why in the ever loving HELL did Konami decide to print the card IRL with ZERO RESTRICTIONS as to what it could do? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????

There was so many lines of play that were instant death it was insane. You could Cold Wave set spy. Since they can't play spells or traps they would probably just set something or whatever. Next turn flip Spy get another one summon cat mind control there guy so many things you could do that equalled game real fast.

This brings back memories for me as that Nationals 2009 was my best nationals day 2 result. Losing in top 64 to Spicer who was on synchro cat. Funny enough... I was one of those duelist who was on triple solemn and I was told that was a death sentence over and over again... and yet it was the savior in almost all my matchups... winning my last 8 matches to get to 10-2 for that event. DSF was a HUGE mistake. If you didnt play the card, you were severely behind the 8 ball. Ill never forget selling 4 DSF at that nationals for $100 each cause people needed them at the event and vendors were sold out. This was also one of the first major events that vendors werent allowed to sell cards for over $99... which we never understood. CCV was $300+, charge, dad, jd, etc etc were all high priced cards so getting them was tough for players who needed them. Needless to say, I still use that mat for events locally as a reminder that I use to be good at the game but no longer care to win. I just casually play w the kids up at the shop and get asked questions all the time about my past. Blackwings were my pet deck and I run them in Edison today. DSF will not be forgotten.

DSF was a $40 super at the time it came out. The card was beyond broken, and as people said, it's hard to understand how powerful DSF was, but it made OTKing brain dead easy. It got e-banned reeeeeeeeal fast.

The Old Dark Strike Fighter is one of those broken cards that can never be unbanned regardless of formats unless it has it's effect nerfed I which it did. It was a menace back in that time. Today the card will be beyond the ultimate menace because of the power Creep of the game. The card would be more powerful than ever. Can argue that it's even more powerful than the most powerful cards ever created.

Unfortunately this card overshadowed this guy's other card archetype, the Burning Skull Head archetype. The deck type could've been similar to Skull Servants but with FLAMING SKULLS but it was never given the support it needed. A true travesty for the most metal of motorbike stereotypes that very much could've rode off of that. I don't know why, I just think "Burning Skull Head" is a hilarious card to be used by a motorcycle duelist.

No. it was played by Reactor user Greiger. He played it in his Turbo duel with Yusei. Summoning it by using Black Salvo to revive Trap Reactor Y FI. And Yusei destroyed with Junk Warrior while it was equipped with Armory Arm. AKA another card from the 5DS anime that got an errata. Hunter Pace (AKA the duelist based on Bandit Keith who took the place of someone else in the Fortune Cup) played Burning Skulls.

I used to think the ATK point design and level for DSF was brilliant. 2600 ATK plus 1400 damage is enough to kill someone in a half-duel. Now I realize it was NOT brilliant it should have had less ATK. Konami is a lot unlike any political actor today because Konami overcorrected the issue in the errata while any matter relating to crime and politics is always undercorrected.

I only started playing after the card was banned so I never understood why. The funny thing is personally it both does and doesnt seem like a card I would like, its always weird when it comes to these (broken) extra deck cards. Setting aside the current formats personally I'd like to see both more battle phase and more burn damage, but it seems the community and/or konami thinks the opposite, for better or worse. Burn just turns into degenerate ftk combo loop enablers and stuff and battle phase just kinda doesnt exist anymore that people stopped using battle traps.

Step back chumps this is how you fix YU-GI-OH Side note Links should’ve been made before Pendulum then Pendulums last. Side note the *ed ones the best ones 1. *Face down cards can’t be used as fusion material but can be used for tributes of a ritual or tribute summon or effect. 2. *1 Normal summon and 1 set or 2 sets (or 2 normal Summons) (Either Or or 1 set, 1 normal summon, 1 tribute Summon) 3. *You can normal summon in face-up defense position 4. *Tokens can be used as xyz material 5. *Increase the Extra and Side deck to 20 6. Draw 1 card when you end your turn 7. *Link monsters can be used as synchro material but count as level 0 ofc 8. get rid of missing timing 9. *Get rid of properly summoning 10. *Ritual monsters that say “YOU CAN ritual summon this card” can also be Special or Normal summoned like regular monsters. Only Rituals that say “MUST BE” must be ritual summoned. Or Ritual Monsters start in the Extra Deck. 11. Unlimited normal summons of normal monsters and of any level 1-8 12. *Links aren’t restricted to the EMZONES To be Summoned 13. *Pendulum summoning from the face-up extra deck aren’t restricted to linked zones 14. Once per turn on either turn each player can activate 1 trap from their hand 15. *when a monster attacks another monster that has higher DEF points it’s destroyed after damage calc. 16. Both players can use both the EMZones for any type of monsters. 17. any combination of cards with mutual links can be used to have control of a monster in both mid field Extra Monster Zones. Instead of just the U lock ( u-v-L locks don’t lock your opponent’s out of the extra deck tho) 18. *Monsters in the Mid field Extra monster Zones can be used by either player for The summons of Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, XYZ, Link and tributes for tribute Summons. Now both players benefit and take a risk by using the Extra monsters zones 19. Monsters in the Pendulum Zones can be used by (the controller) for The summons of Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, XYZ, Link and tributes for tribute Summons 20. You can Fusion summon fusion monsters without poly by Summoning material on top/in the same zone as the other material.( for monster that requires 3 material the material must be on field or in hand just like how poly works. ( if you’ve play Dark Duel stories then you’d know how this works) ( its just a choice between letting this summoning mechanic be a fusion summon or not which ofc it should be counted as Fusion summon so then monsters gain their effects and if the material is sent to the gy or is stays stacked in the same zones.) 21. *Bring back the Pendulum zones but you can only pendulum summon monsters equal to the # of zones in between where you placed your scales in the back row. So with how the board is set up now you can only pen summon 3 monsters. So if you want to summon 5 they’d need to bring back pendulum scale zones plus it’d be cool to set traps in your pendulum zones yk 22. Link monsters Arrow can be used to climb up or down the field creating EMZones on your opponent’s field or your own S/T zones (monsters that are on your side of the field under the opponent’s control can be used as summoning material for link, xyz, synchro, fusion, ritual, or tribute summons) 23. Both And/or Link arrows just let the link monster attack the zones it points to along with monsters in the same Column 24. *Monster in the main monster zones can only attack the monsters in the same column as themselves and when the zone is empty you can attack directly. 25. Monsters In the Mid Field Extra Monster Zones have the chance to target any monsters in the main monster zones for attacks along with the other Mid Field Extra Monster Zone 26. While In the EMZ or main monster zones Pendulum monsters can attack S/T cards/ cards in the S/T zones in the same column as itself. (No damage is delt) Or pendulums can only attack an opponent’s Cards in the S/T zones while its been summon to the opponent’s field (in your control) bc the arrow a link monster points to an opponent’s main monsters zones 27. Pendulum monsters in the Pendulum zones can only attack monsters in the mid field Extra monster zones or Cards( monster, S/T) across from itself on the opponent’s field in the Pendulum Zones. 28. *All monsters have battle protection from monsters with lower Levels/Ranks then themselves and also have Battle vulnerability with monsters that have a higher Level/ Rank then themselves. Meaning they are instantly destroyed after damage calc when battling a monster with a higher Level/ Rank Or All monsters have battle protection and instant destruction upon attacks on monsters in this oder. Level 12 beats level 11 and below and Rank 1 beats level 12 and below ect ect ect 29. You can start duels with any number of Pendulum’s monsters face-up on top of the extra deck for you to Pend summon but they take up space in your extra Deck 30. *Add a secondary Extra deck thats only for spells and traps thats 5-10-20 cards and you can once per turn set 1 trap or add it to your hand and 1 activation/set of a spell or add it to your hand ( only in the main phase of the turn players turn) (Pendulum monsters can be place here to) (You Activate any spell you choose from the speed spell deck or you set it depends on if you wanna extra zone to activate spells from or if you wanna make it more of a guess which card is my trap cards kinda deal) 31. Create a separate banlist for the speed spell deck 32. All together your once per turn resources become 1 set of a trap or add it to your hand 1 set of a spell or add it to your hand 1 normal summon 1 set of a monster 1 pendulum summon 1 activation of a trap from the hand CARD DESIGNS THAT ID LIKE TO SEE IN THE FUTURE THAT COULD HELP BALANCE THE GAME More reprints More possible/realistic 1. Create (more)Pendulum Ritual Monsters 2. Trap Pendulum Monsters 3. Link Pendulum Monsters 4. Create Pendulums with Different Numbered Scales on Each Side(scale) 5. Create Pendulum Flip Monsters 6. Create Pendulum Union Monsters 7. Create Pendulum Gemini Monsters 8. Create Generic Pendulum Archetypes to Support Links, Xyz, Synchros, Fusions, Rituals, Tribute, Normals, flip, union, gemini, spirits, Attributes, types etc 9. Print more column specific Effects on cards. 10. Print more Link 5s 11. Level 1 synchros 12. Link tuners Less possible/realistic 1. *Create Link monsters with DEF points that are Red cards 2. *Create S/T cards with Pendulum Scales 3. *Create S/T cards with Link Arrows 4. *Create Speed Spells And a Speed Spell Deck Zone 5. It's funny,I ran into a video simular to this subject years ago and all they did was name every synchro that was used in the last two or three metas...when I mention cards like dark strike fighter,stardust,colossal fighter,magical android,scrap arxher and many more...long story short I got cursed out for a year none stop for mentioning this..let's also not forget even archtype synchro from black k wings,and even x saber were potent back then and even black rose dragon
