I want this story not cause Scientist was the best, but because it was the FIRST. Before Scientist FTK came about there were NO decks that could consistently kill you before your first draw. Scientist changed that INSTANTLY, and I don’t think people realize what kinds of cancer existed back then. If you think Frogs and Pendulums were bad, back when Scientist was being used as a win button, Last Will, Painful Choice, Monster Reborn, Premature Burial, DMoC, Graceful Charity, Pot of Greed, AND Last Will were all legal SIMULTANEOUSLY. And the deck was LITERALLY unstoppable: no Crush Card, no hand traps, just the dice roll and pure dumb luck (which didn’t exist because of the aforementioned cards). It was and still is considered by many to be the most consistent and dirty FTK of all time because of the environment it was played in.

Oh I remember those days, I was at the Columbus tournament you talked about. I was one of the gladiator players. I got wrecked so bad one of the worst tournaments I took part in. I was jumping for joy when that list came out!

This was my first event outside of locals! I played my dad's Ultimate Insects with tripple Doom Dozer and Pinch Hopper. I only won one match but i one around 7 games so i was a happy 13 year old. It was also heald at the old convetion center that was next to the river by the twin Norfolk Southern - CSX Transportation railway diamonds/bridges. It was alot of fun for me back then. - Danger!

Man, I had an XYZ Dragon Cannon deck way back in the day that got KILLED by the bans/limits when BLS-Envoy was finally killed off. It wasn't Envoy that sank my deck, it was losing Night Assailant, Cyber Jar and a few others. Then, years later, my T.G.-Plant-Synchron deck got hit when T.G. Striker (NOT a meta card) was limited. I gave up playing the game a few months later when Gearagias came out.

@@justinbryan6249 Pepe stands for Performage Performapal. It was one of the strongest Pendulum decks ever. Several of its cards were emergency banned a week or so after they were released in Breakers Of Shadow.

@@Trekkie46 I'm so glad I didn't purchase that deck. I was playing burning abyss at the time IRL and was playtesting the shit out of PEPE before it was released on devpro, absolutely awesome deck to play. I wouldn't say the deck did anything especially degenerate, but it was unfair in power level and resource recovery versus everything else available at the time. It made decent boards, but not anything that would stop you from playing yugioh while slowly beating you down/OTK you when your deck ran out of resources. It was only emergency banned because of how unbelievably unfair the deck was in resource management, recovery and consistency, not because it was degenerate or broken like alot of decks were. Hell, even dragon rulers weren't degenerate, they were just unbelievably unfair based on the power level of decks at the time. Spellbooks with judgement were down right degenerate at the time, with a damn near guaranteed jowgen first turn lock every game, or Nekroz's releaser unicore lock. Hell even shadolls super poly winda combo would be considered degenerate at the time. Or qliphort towers turbo was near impossible to break through.

Synchro cat and dragon rulers are more memorable than this, also the magical scientist and chaos format, all are devastating deck types. I also remember monarch, light and darness dragon, machine otk, demise otk, destiny control, tele dad and others, they are not as powerful as the decks i mentioned in the above paragraph. The next devastating deck i expect is tech genus utilising needlefiber. A deck that can summon powerful control cards like no tomorrow, such as shooting quasar, cosmo blazar, stardust warrior, t.g. Blaster etc..

Its amazing how i was playing MUD and perfect circle deck before that time and then switched to playing completely casually ( Monarch decks with a lot of control cards) until 2013 and after playing Spellbooks i left playing meta until DUEA , never stopped playing meta since then ! YuGiOh surely its a fun game besides all the bad formats and the dramatic increase in the speed

I forgot why i quit back in the day. always remembered it was before synchro summoning was a big deal i actually quit after how they killed the dark deck. i spend hundreds of euros on this set (was 19 only had school and a part time job) only for it to be destroyed after this and the next ban list. I still have really fond memories of the game.
