I thought of writing a long paragraph about how seeing a new two stroke stuffing upload makes me feel like but as I'm watching this during my lunch break and work starts again in 20 minutes, I just wanted to say I absolutely fckn love your videos more than any other videos on youtube. I always get really really excited when there hasn't been a new video in weeks. Thanks for the extremely well made and addicting videos! I am sooo looking forward to see the result of your dream cylinder! I just love two strokes and the simple way they work and how many things there are to make them more powerful. I ride a Husqvarna WRE 125 1995 myself and its loads of fun! I luckily found a HGS tuning Pipe for this model, which is extremely rare cause my year was one of the last years where the pipe would go to the left of the bike and then to the right of the bike to the silencer. Sad thing is that I absolutely don't know anyone who could do the jetting for me cause there is nothing to find on the internet about this particular pipe. If anyone reads this I would be so damn thankful if anybody could help me with the jetting. Again its a Husqvarna WRE 125 1995 with Mikuni TM35 and a left side HGS Pipe. Thanks in advance kind stranger!

From ASM Handbook - surface engineering , Electroless coatings need heat treatments at temperatures above 370 °C. For Nickel-Boron coatings standard heat treated at 400 °C (750 °F) for 1 h. After 1-h heat treatments at 350 to 400 °C (660 to 750 °F) hardness values of 1200 HV 100 can be produced.

About the pedal; the harder you press down the pedal, the more friction goes into the transmission, so get the weights in the variator as close to perfect as possible. those small lathes are awesome. dont let people tell you otherwise. i got one 2 years ago and had so much fun with it. but keep in mind that you really need time, the machines are not very powerful and also not very rigid, not saying they are floppy or something, they are just too small for heavy work. if i were at your point, i'd go for the milling machine first - there are many things that require either flat surfaces or precise holes, thats what a mill can offer, a lathe really just can make round parts with holes in it (yes you can do a sqare and stuff but still, a milling machine is more useful for general fabrication than a lathe)

One single SMALL scratch is all it takes to do a Rockwell hardness test! You attempt to make ONE little scratch, starting with the softest file and work your way up until one leaves a barely visible mark. Then your hardness number is somewhere between the last file you used (the one that made the scratch) and the previous one. Please, next time don't scratch all your hard work to hell completely just for a hardness test. Other than that one nit pick... Keep up the awesome work dude! I had an idea that might help you. Use an old propane tank or air compressor tank as a vacuum accumulator. Pump it down with the pump as far as it will go. Then have a pipe from the container you put your hot crucible in and open the valve all at once. The shock should get all gas bubbles out in a very short time while the aluminum is still as hot as possible.

Brilliant work! I still believe that a piston ring that wraps around the piston twice much like a four stroke oil scraper ring would solve the port clearance problem. By circling the cylinder twice you will have 720 degrees of contact an the piston ring will remain a perfect circle and will not expand into the large ports. If 75% of the cylinder is opened for ports this will still give you 50% contact. if you use a ring that circles the piston three times your cylinder is now 1080 degrees and you have 75% contact "in theory".

Good stuff. Thanks for the update. I am thinking it will be good to test the linning you have already created under actual running conditions just so you can start comparison data on boron nitride/silicon carbide mixing towards your balance of heat transfer verses hardness. Scratching the surface using a hardness testing kit without the lubricants and temperatures of actual running conditions seems like a poor data return considering how much effort you made to create the coating. Very exciting to watch you develope. Thanks again. I look forward to next update.

When using Hardness test files, it's better to start with the black (RC50) file as it's the hardest. You don't need to use them as a traditional file but just lightly push one direction with slight downward pressure. If the file teeth "grab" the surface then proceed to the next lower hardness file and progress until the file slides easily across the work. This method doesn't damage the file teeth and preserves the integrity of the kit.

My I offer some advice? I have built 14 small bore 2-stroke engines that have broken records at El Marige Dry Lake. Understand, peak horsepower is important to an extent but you have to understand how the cylinder fills when pulling up to your best power range. If you can't make torque low in the rpm range you will never pull the tall gear you will be running. Ergo, you will continually be slipping the clutch just to get up to speed. With one mile to work within the lack of torque will kill your attempt even if the motor makes big numbers on the dyno. For me it came to cylinder fill, squish velocity and a lot of pipe testing... in basic terms. Cheers.

Thanks! This is where the variator shines - the engine can be held at peak power rpm all the time.

The reason for the low temper of the nickel Boron nitride coating maybe is to be found in the grid structure of the material Boron nitride. I have read that there is a main difference between cubic boron nitride and hexagonal boron nitride. The hexagonal boron nitride (hbn) has a very low temper and the cubib boron nitride has avery high temper. Very good video. Now i am a fan of your channel.

You *can* run the softer coating, as long as you are using piston ring(s) which are made for softer cylinders than Nikasil ones are. Maybe a ring meant for nodular cast iron cylinders? Not entirely sure what hardness those are, but rings for Nikasil cylinders are notoriously hard.
@MrSpeedAndy
@MrSpeedAndy 5 жыл бұрын
Don’t stress about the coating. It may be softer, but it has so much lower Cf that it will wear well and produce a lot less heat from friction. Even though I think it will last longer than Ni/SiC, friction steals power, so if you are looking for the “most powerful” then longevity doesn’t matter. Either way you win!
