It's likely just cause it's being run by a micro controller, and it's on battery. Considering it doesn't have a dedicated power switch sometimes micro controllers get locked up in the BOD when the voltage drops too low and you have to manually reset them either with a power cycle (impossible in this case as it's powered by a battery) or using a reset pin to trigger a reset on the micro controller. So it's actually a very useful thing (though they could have also just put a power switch on it.)

You can use your volume down button as a camera shutter button. This is pointless other than the MagSafe part. The volume down even works for burst shots if you hold it down. Not many people know about this which isn’t surprising I only learned about it by accident. A lot of Apple features work that way, you just eventually do certain things and go wow that does that type thing lol.

It makes the camera more stable and really helps with the new lighter phones if you're taking night shots and you're not super stable. Plus it's bluetooth so you can use it as a remote trigger too.

I designed and made one of these as soon as MagSafe was announced with the iPhone 12, well before the shift cam existed or any other version. I looked around to see if anybody had made one yet, but I didn’t find anything, so I was going to try to get a patent and start producing them, but I never really got around to it. I personally use the ProGrip. Larger capacity, more compatibility, grippier form factor, more attatchable equipment, and it still does 15W on an iPhone because it has an MFM chip built-in
