Btw, while desoldering large globs like that, use a solder sucker accessory instead of a desoldering braid of the same price. The braid will get very quickly full and can burn the board and is usually used to help clean contacts, while the sucker will use a burst of air to pick up the molten solder in an instant. They're also reusable, too.

Easy to fix without replacing the module, just take out the potentiometer on the side that’s drifting(left/right or forward/back) check with a magnifier for bends and bend back with small pincers or a needle and clean. Don’t over complicate things..

@@lamarrcrocker6101 what hair? I fix these all the time. Usually I just replace the wiper if that doesnt work I replace the potentiometer. Then use a board to adjust. As a tip do not use bismuth low melt solder because when mixed with leaded the melting temperature is less than 100C which can ruin traces. Fixing traces under the joystick the most frustrating process ever. I haven't successful at that yet.

Don't remove the whole thing unless the actual mechanical stick part is worn. Just pop the potentiometer off the side, it is only 3 pins per potentiometer. And you can do those pins one at a time. Then clear the circuit board holes and re-install the single potentiometer (if it's only a single axis that drifts).

I wouldn't recommend anyone try doing this type of repair without a desoldering tool like a desoldering gun or a hot air gun. DS4 controllers are way easier to calibrate, if your controller has drift but if it rotates fine and doesnt shake while doing so you can get away with a calibration program to reset the center and max range of both analogs
@Brysonic10002 ай бұрын
Okay so if you're wondering yes you can take an old ps4 controller and swap out the working joystick for your drifting ps5 stick if you're somewhat technically advanced and have a soldering kit. OR you can do just cleaning the joysticks AND take the working ps4 joystick plastic piece in the potentiometer, and replace the one in direction youre drifting after cleaning the inside of the area with Qtip an alcohol really well. (Up and down or left and right) I did both options on a white and a camo version of the ps5 controller and it worked both ways. First time, i just cleaned it out following a video and then replaced the white pieces with ones from a working ps4 joystick. Worked perfectly and was experiencing drift so bad i couldn't even stand still or select my games without it immediately jumping all the way to the left. Second controller i did this in the video to just make sure i could if needed to end up doing it anyways but the drift wasn't as major as the first controller and then replaced it with a joy stick from the ps4 joystick. BUT YOU HAVE YO BE CAREFUL TAKING OUT THE OLD ONE AND MAKING SURE YOU PUT IT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IN THE PS5 CONTROLLER. or you'll mess up bad. Just be careful but i always heard you couldn't use ps4 sticks in a ps5 controller but i did it because they both were identical anyway like complete copy an it worked fine .

I love how stick drift wasnt really a problem on retro consoles. I bet sony is using sub par materials so the controller breaks and they have to replace it. I had a PS1, original Xbox, xbox 360 and never had a single problem with stick drift even after throwing the controller 50 times. Now It happens on my controllers I use on my PC before/after 1 year of light use.
@theerandomdude23758 күн бұрын
I found out most stick drift is caused by small hairs that can be vacuumed out.. (you have to expose the joycon so taking the controller apart) the wires are weak so you have to be careful turning the controller mother board so tou can easily access the joycon parts, then just put a vacuum on it and wait a few seconds as the hair might take a few seconds, but after awhile it keeps attracting hairs
@theerandomdude23758 күн бұрын
Note: i domt have a solder wand so if it breaks then im kinda screwed, but it works fine so far and my stick drift seems to go away.. (but it also depends on the type of stick drift… since sometimes its just the controller)

I tried using those flex pcb “fixers” and they suuuuck. They introduce a resistance to the potentiometers that tell you L/R/U/D and instead of going the distance they should, the joystick suddenly won’t go to 100%. Depending on how bad the drift is and how much you have to tune those boards you can be left with a stick that can only do a little, one way😑 Proper fix? Newer, better potentiometers that go 50° instead of the common 45° to way up for that extra drift.

@@themadvagabond4769 spoken true like someone who has no idea what they are talking about. #1 yes you do need the right hall effect joystick for the right controller, the model of the board does not matter though.
