The Most Profound VR Experience I've Had Yet - Sol in Elite Dangerous VR

Elite Dangerous in VR is awe inspiring. Getting the Sol permit to visit our solar system though, was something different. How to get the sol permit was an absurdly difficult grind but to see the sun in VR, to visit the earth and to orbit the moon in virtual reality was a bucket list item I did not know I had. VR games are usually incredible, but this felt different.

@@yourlocalReptillian the pfp actually has a long story. Basically, like 6 years ago, I made cringy minecraft lets-plays. After a while, I deleted them. Then, a few years ago, I wanted to make redstone tutorials, and tried to remake this channel. I started with the pfp, and then couldn't figure out how to change the name, so I just made a new account altogether. And, then, I guess I just didn't bother changing the picture.

As someone who had the Sol permit from the get go (because I was part of the Kickstarter campaign and pledged at a high enough level to get it and the Free Expansion Pass as perks) I never had to grind for it, so I can't share your pain. I did however have to play the game for a while to acquire the credits to upgrade my starter Cobra (another of the perks) with a good enough hyperdrive and fuel scoop to make the journey feasible from my starter location of Shinrarta Dezhra (yet another perk). And since making credits just after the launch of ED was so much harder (rewards were nowhere near the level they currently are at) it took me several weeks before I got to enjoy my Sol permit. So I salute you, fellow traveler for having made it to the origin system of humanity!

I seriously love your videos. You show VR games in a completely different way. Everyone else goes over the gameplay. Which is nice. But….You make it an amazing story while showing us a game! I love it.

Love every video. The lower quality mic that symbolizes it was captured while playing, the high quality voice over and the comedic cuts and zooms. Amazing content.

Habie has become Solaire standing at the edge of his known world at the unreachable Sun, calling the sun things like "a magnificent father" and wishing he could be "so grossly incandescent." He even laughed at the end of the video like a Dark Souls NPC!!!

VR with HOTAS makes Elite Dangerous literally one of the most immersive games I've ever played in my life. If the headset didn't make me all sweaty and make my eyes sore after a while. I would literally just fly around all day. I recently played it in VR for the forst time with just a controller and felt so out of place that I immediately bought a HOTAS, and the realism (aside from screen door effect and lack of inertia) is just insane. The game feels magical, and it's ALL REAL places in the galaxy! Still sad I can't see the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula since thay've been gone for thousands of years but oh well

By now, i'm watching your videos literally for the kind words at the end of each of them! The great content before that is just some kind of a bonus at this point... ...Seriously, i doubt that you yourself can comprehend how much those small words of kindness might mean to some of us.

I completely agree, except that I personally didn't find the rank grind for a Sol permit especially hard. I just talked up naturally while doing whatever activity struck my fancy and going wherever there seemed to be something interesting. But yeah, touring Sol is amazing. My wife has a VR setup too, and we ended up spending a date night in multicrew touring the solar system. Yes, we're nerds, but it was fun and strangely romantic. We ended the tour by looping back to Europa and landing at the edge of a beautiful ice canyon.

I do really agree with the educational part, about how school just teaches us the numbers but it doesn’t give us any perspective, but I feel like that’s the education system as a whole, it only teaches us the “in theory” and never the practical
