With full interior, nonetheless. 7 years later, here is the City of Toronto at 1:1 scale.

Thanks for stopping by Building Toronto! We were able to make Union just as confusing in Minecraft as it was in the real city! 🤣

The real reason why Union is so confusing: Large engineering projects (such as train stations and airports) typically start from a much smaller point, and have additions added on over time as demand for the services increase (or fluctuate). It is directly influenced by the willingness to spend, as a function of revenue, government funding, political atmosphere (for example around election times), and the priorities like upkeep versus new expansions versus renovations. This is why most airports are inconsistent in quality and architectural style, you’ll notice the same thing at Union. Another big hint is something is “always under construction” when you visit!

That's not in the current "building perimeter"; the dreaded Gardiner Expressway is being built, though!

Nice looking city! I see the streets mostly align with the Minecraft 'grid'. Not sure if this is intentional, but the buildings look a lot better than those weird diagonal ones in the Build the Earth project.
@allancoelho6905
@allancoelho6905 2 күн бұрын
Build The Earth aligns it's grid with a triangular projection, that's why some buildings look weird, but that's the most accurate projection of a globe to a flat map, with very little distortion, unlike Mercator's projection (the one we learn and use daily) that has most of the map slightly stretched, especially Canada, Europe and Russia, due to how up north these 50ish countries are Build Toronto doesn't use any special projection, nor rely specifically on IRL coordinates, so they can align it however they want
@vonfrank42
@vonfrank42 21 сағат бұрын
Yes, for this project we purposefully decided to align everything to Toronto's Grid, which is 16.5 degrees offset from true North/South. As a result, every building doesn't have to be awkwardly rotated like it is in the Build the Earth project.

i always find trying to get that high reflective blue skyscraper glass to look good in minecraft is so fking hard! still to this day i still am trying multiple ways to make it look good, but still no answer. like in this map showcase, you can really see how hard it is to get the blue curtain wall skyscraper facade to work nicely, i usually try to add mullions or some sort of indication of support to show that its not just a blue glass block, sometimes i alternate between light blue and dark blue stained glass as well but sometimes that looks @ss anyone have any ideas how to nail that blue skyscraper glass effect in minecraft?
