Some characters do have more HP, you can turn on the option to see their health. It's based on parts of the body, to win a fight you need to either completely depleat health from a body part, or do enough comulative damage over all body parts to overwhelm them. Gedeon, for instance, has a lot of health, that's why he can take hits that other characters normally can't. Don't really know about Jacek's health tho, but hope this helps you! We few Hellish Quart gamers need to help out each other more, since it's such a small community. I'm always happy to see you revisiting this game! Hope you continue accompanying the game's development!

yup. Gedeon has more hp, so often he can tank some damage and survive double hit (or "trading" as called in this video). I play with HP meters on, because it makes sense for me that I see whether any of the fighters has wounds somewhere. And I play on lowesta details so I hardly see it on the characters (I don't know how visible it would be).

The "pirate looking" guy is definitely a Cossack, that hairstyle+moustache combo is a dead giveaway. Plus, as someone with surface level knowledge of Polish saber fencing, Jacek's combos do seem for me to be based around literally styling over his enemies. Some taunts after winning a round kind of reinforce this idea to me.

Not an expert, but to my understanding, Marta and Marie represent the two different styles of rapier that were common in early modern europe. Marta fights using the spanish style of rapier fencing, which specializes in getting the read on an enemy through a a bind in order to catch them off-guard with quick thrusts. Maria on the other hand fights using the italian style, where you try to minimize where an enemy can hit you and avoid binds in favour of trying to catch the opponent with a quick surprise lunge.

Kinda hoping the devs are gonna add a Montante/Zweihänder character at some point. So far, the closest thing we got is Isabella with her longsword, but that's not quite the same. And strictly speaking, the big two-handers would be more period accurate for the game.

it could be cool but I guess it would be somewhat game breaking. At the same time, zweihaender weilding character appears in Polish historical fiction taking place in ths period (or maybe like 20 years later, but this is still the same "noble democracy" period in Polish history), although he is presented as superbly strong. At least it was presented as zweihander in the movie adaptation. The novel just states that it is so long that it almost touches the owners armpit while attached to his belt (and the owner is supposed to be a giant man).

Slavic Sabre was supreme to many other dueling weapons because it was similar to katana, had both piercing and devastating swing attack capability, was much durable than katana, so you could parry with it more effectively. And, most of all, it was much easier to learn, but harder to master. And could be used effectively by warriors both on foot or riding in a saddle.

They definitely need to put a Rob Roy style Scottish Highlander in there as historically there were reputedly 10,000 Scots in the Commonwealth - usually working as itinerant peddlars, traders and as much needed foot soldiers. Characters definitely do have differing health values, not to a HUGE extent but it's also localized to limbs. Some characters arms and legs have less health than their head or chest, or vice-a-versa. You can find it out if you turn on the debug UI that brings up the health and stamina bars. I forget which function key it is though.

Mildly-intersting fact about Yendrek: he most likely is a Rusyn (ethnicity in western Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland and Serbia, maybe Romania and Hungary). By the way he is dressed, I would say he is a Lemko (sub-ethnicity of Rusyns). The axe he wields is their traditional weapon, and I own a couple. When Simo says that he is lucky only the axe head is sharp, that is a bit of foreshadowing, as after the partition of Poland the Austrian government banned those axes from being sharpened, thus the Rusyns started dulling them and using them as effective two-handed maces. So yeah, they were actually fully dull, not just the handle...

Aren't you winning trades because you have the right of way? I haven't followed development for a while so I can't remember if it was only enabled for certain modes but basically the right of way gives the attacking fighter some sort of "priority" on trades and is lost and passed to the enemy if you either back out from an attack like with a feint or simply just cancelling the attack to try and defend or dodge, or if the enemy succesfully blocks your attack or dodges it

I'd love to see a Sikh with a tulwar in this game, though not sure how they'd integrate that into the story/environment. It would be great to see the contrast of the Sikh using sweeping draw cuts, and traditional footwork to try and fight more 'in-close' vs European sabre techniques, with greater emphasis on extending the sword and more wrist-action.

no really, although it is not really important. Jack is derived from either John or Jacques - so James. In polish those are Jan and Jakub. Jacek comes from the name Hyacinth (in English) or rather from the latin name Hyacinthus. Which is name of a flower, but comes from Greek mythology.

As a gemdev, HEMA practitioner and gamer I really think they shot them self in the foot when doing so many saber fencers. By far the most practised sword is longsword. It's great that they have other styles and weaponds, but there are like 10 saberists. I have not played it for a while, but arent all the saber styles polish aswell. They should add some brittish and swedish saber. The swedish system is known to hurt in the HEMA world.
