The parts that really hit hard were when Sato didn't react to other characters breaking down or even his lack of reaction to the suicide island bits. Failling to say something or take action due to overthinking or anxiety when it's absolutely neccessary was portrayed eerily accurate. NHK was special.

Bro found this video from the Reddit and I haven’t found a person perfectly encapsulate the show quite like you , I think your editing and production was clean and mentioned some lesser mentioned aspects of the show. Keep this shit up, you deserve all the attention!

Kyuukei wa Amasugiru Kotoba is probably my favorite jazz piece ever, i might be biased because i heard it in this anime first, but ironically the song only plays for around 20-30 seconds in the last episodes where Sato is having dinner with Hitomi and later when he imagines himself in the love hotel with her. It's baffling to me how such a wonderful piece is just on the sidelines of a well known but niche anime and from an even more niche band like Pearl Brothers.

I don't think it's really abnormal for a piece of media that came out in 2006 to be focused on mental health

For some time I have been waiting to rewatch this anime thinking "I will watch it again when I get low enough in life". Tbh i'm quite scared that it will not have the effect it had on me the first time I watched it.

What i like about this anime is how literally the only thing that changes is Satou gets a job, that’s it. He’s still mentally unwell, and that’s what i like because there is no Resolution really.

I mean thats kinda how real life works, doesnt it. I think in anime we are used to seeing the characters change completely and do a hard 180 degree turn in their lives from one episode to the next, when that's just not the case in real life, change happens gradually, slowly and it never gets easier. Even though the people around him wanted him to get better, Sato only got a job because he was literally starving to death, realizing the only one that can save him is himself. The resolution is that you just have to keep going, no matter what happens, you can't give up on yourself.

You know i had a question that came up after I rewatched this show. I wonder what Hayao Miyazaki would think of this show lol.Yes I know he hates most things but one thing he truly cares about is people. He said many times that anime nowadays is made by people who hate looking at other people. But I think NHK isn't like that, yeah there's fanservice but the characters are very human, they are flawed in many many ways. It doesn't just show sunshine and rainbows (except maybe the island arc which was a little too happy and resolved pretty neatly) but gets to the heart of what life is really like for many people. It doesn't shy away from showing characters making bad decisions, being impulsive. But all in all I don't think I wouldn't call any of the main characters bad people either. But then again i already know how he would feel lmao

We must live in a small world because I initially found your channel because of Parannoul, and you then make a video about the anime that HE loves! I imagine you already know this, but this anime is sampled throughout To See the Next Part of the Dream (especially on White Ceiling) and it's what made me check it out in the first place. Who knew that I'd end up watching something genuinely life-changing (despite being in college I'm a lost 20 year-old, and I needed it). It's so cool to find someone else with such specific interests haha. I'd recommend reading the translations to the ending song of the last episode, it perfectly encapsulates what the show is all about: life sucks, but as long as someone cares about you or you care about someone else, life is always worth living!

yeah, man, it's great to see other people interested in similar things, because lowkey sometimes it seems like you're the only one, but yeah, thanks for watching the video. i'm glad you enjoyed it also. W parannoul
