The music from Jesus Christ Superstar was perfect!
@rockshot1006 ай бұрын
I love how the lyrics and music depend on each other. Most obvious in "Gethsemane". I am not religious, but that song is the whole crescendo of the production. Jesus knows what is ahead and is anxious, afraid, etc.., then in that song, he decides to trust in His father. From then on, He is at complete peace. Lots of people who study songs, say that song, "I don't know how to love him" is one of the best ever written. *shrug" Long explanation about how the notes fall together and the whole structure of it. It is 100% about faith, should be, "I don't know if I believe him". AGREED

I only saw the recording, WHO would think a comic could hold a candle to Carl Anderson??? Tim IS Judas IRL. Remember Jesus and Judas were best friends to the end. (mates) Tim is amazing, bet he can dance too. That must have been a BIG experience. I saw Ted and Carl live, Twice. But both were a stage set up, never was meant to be a stage thing. Still amazing. BTW, Tim sought out the writer, Weber, and asked him if he could play the part. He said he was an atheist, Weber said, "keep talking."

Being a musical theater fan from my earliest memories in the 1970s, JCS was a huge part of my childhood. It was the first professional touring company show I saw-I asked for tickets to see it in Chicago for my 10th birthday present. The film was shown on tv every Easter weekend, and my sister and I played the soundtrack album on the turntable all the time, arguing who got to sing Judas and who was stuck with Jesus. I really like the tribute album from the 1990s SXSW artists, with the Indigo Girls singing Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The biggest problem on that album is the guy singing Caiaphas-his voice can’t handle the lowest notes. That album has my favorite version of Simon Zealot’s song, a jazzy version instead of the usual rocker.

WTF? Aussies, who could imagine that this comic Tim (not many in the States know of him), could ACT, SING, and do it all effortlessly? H E C T I C A F. Nothing trite or cheesy about him. He is up there with Hugh Jackman. Bet he can dance too. I am extremely critical, but he is perfection. The rest are good, but he shocked me. Carl Anderson did the same role in the movie and on stage, I saw him and Ted live, Twice. Carl defined the role,, instead of most who copy him, Tim plays the role differently; he is usually angry at his best friend (mate or "C" word). Smart move Tim. "If you can't beat 'em, then play a different game." I would love to see Hugh play Judas, and Tim play Oklahoma! BTW, it NEVER says that Mary was a prostitute, not even a hint.. I imagine she was just a follower or apostle. "I don't know how to love him" is NOT about sexual love. Should be, "I don't know if I believe him", this really bothers her. The whole production is about faith or lack of it. "Do you think you're who they say you are?"

Carl defined the role of Judas, no room for improvement. Really, Tim has an angry take with his best friend Jesus, instead of just fear and panic. He can hold a candle to Carl. Tim is so different, they can't be compared. I am biased because I saw Ted and Carl live, 2 times. Tim is as good as Carl, although different.

That's the point -this is after judas is dead. His angst is shown when he hangs himself. But the show takes a sympathetic view of Judas -that he was used by God and suggests he wasn't condemned.
