Roy Halliday when he started was terrible. He got sent down to the minors, took it as a chance to work and learn and when recalled became a Hall of Famer. He did not take it as a demotion. He looked at it as a chance to become better. Alek thinks because he did so well in 2022 that he doesn’t have to work. He thinks he is owed a starting position in the majors. Baseball is not about equity on the field, it is about merit. If you do well you stay in the majors. If you do poorly you get sent down to work on improvement, traded or DFA’d. Your individual performance is only secondary to how well you play as a team mate.

@@mr.benchwarmer well, not to sound like an old codger, which I am, it seems this is a bit of a problem with the newer generation. There does not seem to be that level of taking personal responsibility as before. A feeling of self entitlement although considering Alek’s history it would seem odd. I think he has some psychological issues where he takes things as personal attacks and thinks he knows best. I would hope he finds the help he needs and accepts it or he will disappear.

Last year Yusei Kikuchi was having a brutal season. Told his manager he wanted to be sent down because he was costing the Jays wins. My concern with the Halladay comp is that Manoah's just had a bit too much success in the bigs already compared to where Halladay was during his nightmare season. Yes, he'd tossed a few gems but he wasn't Doc yet, just a young prospect with a big arm who still needed to learn how to pitch. Manoah's meteoric rise and fall is a lot more comparable to someone like Rick Ankiel - especially with the control issues - which gives me some serious cause for concern. My hope is that Manoah can sit down with either a former player or some kind of psychiatrist this offseason who can get it through to him that staying in the bigs is not about past performance, but about constantly fighting for your job no matter what you've done, and he can go out there next year with a better mindset and try to win his job back.

Do the other players think Manoa is a clubhouse cancer the Blue Jays should jettison ASAP or is he seen as just another player who is struggling to regain his form? And someone who occasionally acts like a jerk, but not to his fellow teammates. When the Dodgers were dealing with Trevor Bauer; even before the sexual assault allegations, it was rumored that Clayton Kershaw told Dodger management that Bauer was bad news. Aside from Manoa's lackluster performance, If he is disruptive to the team he needs to be moved or let go. It's called addition by subtraction.

I don't see the urgency, to deal or release him for essentially nothing, he is still on a rookie scale contract. He has obviously fallen into a situation where he at current doesn't have the mental or physical tools to sort himself out right now, but that doesn't mean by any stretch that he never will. Young people do mature, and most people sort out their problems. With Cy Young level upside, and his cheap contract you might as well play the long game with him.

Of course, but treating people with a bit of grace, rather than going straight off the deep end would be a much more reasonable approach. A story came out today that he's been getting a ton of arm injections over the past month, and they've been doing a lot of tests and haven't found anything structural, but the EVIDENCE points to something going on with his arm (from his perspective) even if they haven't been able to figure it out yet. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt and simmer down on the rhetoric?

It must be a desperate organization that puts any value on the guy. Does he even have any value at this point ? On the other hand, he's shown some amazing abilities and there have been cases in the past when a player just blossoms after a trade and a change of venue so who knows.
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
I think they should let him pitch this year & if he’s even half the pitcher he was in 2022, then trade him at the deadline!
@rickyb8636 Жыл бұрын
Trade? Who the hell would want him? Give him his outright release.
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
I think the diamondbacks should make a move for him

His trade value would be nothing at this point
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
Agreed
@CVWE1029 Жыл бұрын
He did not intentionally hit players. If you watch his games he often lost control in sequences. Maybe you are just not really wstching him
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
Sometimes but then there are other times ( like in the video) where you can tell he’s doing it out of anger at someone’s head.
@albertlovshin7791 Жыл бұрын
Do what he wants ,he’ll likely come back to another team where he is welcomed and pitch rs great
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, someone will eventually trade for him
@tibbsmcfish3056 Жыл бұрын
Now it seems like he was hurt, I just heard he got a few shots in his arm. But I still think we should trade him. We are already going to lose a couple guys next year, let's get something for him now. Bring some guys up triple A!
@djsevens2576 Жыл бұрын
Can’t trade at this point unless your looking to get a bag of used balls and a case of beer for him cuz he has no trade value at this point
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
Yeah a few days after I made this video I heard some of the time could’ve been due to injury. That’s why I added him hitting player out of anger. Because there are definitely multiple reasons the jays should move on

I how he never plays in Majors again. He’s a poor excuse for a man. He mad no adjustments in the off season, he’s out of shape and can’t pitch with the pitch clock cause of conditioning. On top of that. He Diane t have that good of stuff. Please never come back to Toronto Alek!

can some pay a snickers bar in a trade for him? cause thats all the jays are gonna get.

Players like "Fat Toad" Manoah should just be banished from the sport in a agreement among all teams to not let the guy play in the LG anymore and make any money. Let the selfish players and trouble makers go back to flippin burgers at MDonalds again. These players are toxic to teams no matter how much potential talent they might have.

I have no idea what Manoah's situarion is playing any sport professionally is not easy. Even the best of the best work hard to keep or improve their skills. If he's not even reporting to AAA, can't they just suspend his pay ? Is he in a breach of contract situation ?
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
I would think they could suspend his pay. I’m hearing now it may have been due to some being wrong with his shoulder

I guess you forgot to consider how the Blue Jays overused Alek Manoah in his first year as a pitcher. It has been known since 1987 that young pitchers under 25 have to increase their innings pitched by maximum 40 innings per year to prevent fatigue and injury to the pitching arm -- because Manoah was such a high performer he was kept in the rotation and pitched an additional 80+ innings (twice the proper increase) in order to get the Jays to the playoff rounds. So his performance decline is most likely on the Jays organization. And he was underpaid given his incredible first year with the Jays (less than $1 million).
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
I do agree that he was underpaid & a lot of these young guys are

I can't see any team trading for him. He's too big a problem and not a very good pitcher. I don't know what his salary is but if its a big one for anybody to take him the Jays will have to pay a good chunk of it. There's no easy out on this guy.
@mr.benchwarmer Жыл бұрын
Some team will give him a shot but it won’t be much

Time for a big revamp.. the kids that saved their bacon lately will likely be traded away to keep the old fellas and pay them more than they will ever be worth.. that includes Vladdy.. get rid of them for some decent pitching.. other teams out pitch them with rookies... shake it up boys... them geezers got to go!
