I used to work at a non-profit. They are notorious for not offering benefits. When we brought this up with a board member, he stated that we had a benefit because, "You have air conditioning." I am not kidding. The thing is, the non-profit didn't even own the building. It was owned by the town, which also paid the utilities. So the non-profit didn't even pay for said A/C. Of course 5 minutes became 10 minutes so a whole hour smoking each day. Us non-smokers did not qualify so we started having 5 minute non-smoking breaks outside. Management were not happy with us and challenged us. The challenge failed and we got an additional 5 minutes off every hour for not smoking.

When it ended, and i was back at my cubicle he came up to me, threw an envelope at me and said, "this is yours". I opened the envelope, took out the check and tossed the rest in the trash.. and said "gee thanks". He disliked me that much. He stormed off. The last one may not be as bad (maybe) if their office is in Nottingham. We have a workplace parking levy from the council where companies are billed for every parking space they have and a lot of smaller companies ended up charging their staff who wanted to drive to work. It sucks to pass that bill along but imagine a company renting an office so they have no choice on how big the car park is getting charged £500 a year per space. Also the point of the levy was to get people to use public transport or bikes so I think the original plan was to pass this charge onto staff because if the company paid it then people wouldn't notice the extra charge and continue to drive ...

It is obviously a "branded" third party site that allows them to make a profit from sales to employees by partnering with this site, but it is listed as a "benefit". Some employees not as financially savvy think it's a good deal, not realizing these installments are equivalent to paying 100% interest on the normal price of these items.

I do claim for my dental check up but that amount is less than what I pay in tax for this benifit.
