The Most Talked About Poker Hand During The WSOP took place during the Main Event. We saw two accomplished poker players get involved in a controversial 18-minute poker hand that is still being hotly debated and talked about by pros and fans alike. Heads up with $10,000,000 on the line, Adrian Attenborough and Espen Jorstad didn't waste any time playing a huge pot, as the action developed right away on hand #1 of the battle. This became the MOST Talked About Poker Hand of the tournament for multiple reasons:
1. It's rare when you watch poker that a player will take this long to call, AND not have the clock called on him.
2. Viewers of the WSOP Main Event, when watching poker live, aren't the MOST patient when it comes to seeing the results of a hand.
3. The MOST Talked About Poker Hand is always going to be the hand that divides two sides of critique...should he have taken that long to act? Did he make the right choice in the hand? Debates spark controversy and poker controversy is why we tune in to watch sometimes.

Lol ok guy shows how little you know. All the draws missed J9, QJ, hearts, spades & his opp had simply been calling him down. It’s hard for him to have a 8 in that spot so it comes down to does he have a 10. I don’t think he thought for much that he likely had a King, as he nvr re-raised him. He has a pair & a pair is super strong heads up. But do journey on, if the guy had Ax hearts & called everyone would call him a genius. The way the hand played out & the board that was present it was a REAL decision.

Weird situation because poker is basically a business for the players but also entertainment for fans. Fans may confuse it for other sports where they pay to enter and feel like they pay players wages and in turn have become more entitled. This is different. 2 guys paid a lot of money to enter and fan entertainment should be the least of their concern. He could call the clock if he wanted. I like that he didnt but can see it being annoying especially for those in attendance and watching live.

kind of reminds me of baseball actually in that when people tank for a reason, a true student of the game doesn't find the tank boring because by definition the time is there to do all the thinking that needs to be done to understand the spot. you're going back through the hand, counting combos, thinking about card removal and whether it's an attractive spot for opponent to try to bluff you. you think through previous hands that have been played, try to get an idea of how opponent would approach the spot. he's not just waiting to wait

Unpopular opinion: I love when decisions in the main event take a long time. It shows how huge a tournament it is and how massive these spots are. It gives it a really special air. Most tournaments need a shot clock, but the WSOP Main Event is the one that doesn't. As for the hand, I get why Attenborough was in such a tough spot. Jorstad is repping a really thin value you range (KQ, 98 of spades, 88, KT, K8s) and there are so many bluffs available. Would be easy for an aggro opponent to way overbluff this spot. Jorstad's value bet was really impressive there, a lot of people would've checked back (which we be more evidence to support bluffcatching).

It is not an easy fold. The way his opponent called down his hand and regarding the board he can have easily have missed draws in his range which habe zero to little showdown value. by betting the river he can potentially bluff out all the better hands. Since J4 did hit something it would beat all these missed draw that has been turned into a bluff now. Missed flush draw, missed OESD, Ace combinations, gut shots, etc. All have nothing but could have been played the way he played by calling the raise pre flop and then calling flop and turn. 8 at the river blanks and also makes it less likely someone had an 8.

J will never call clock here because everyone is willing to wait 30 minutes for 4 million. So you are correct, not calling time was not a show of respect. On the flip side A taking the time was absolutely a sign of respect. Simple or bad opponents require no thought or time and it is an easy decision in a few minutes reguardless of pot size.
