While on one hand it is very sadomasochistic to have a punching dummy I still appreciate him having a thing to download his feelings onto - because if he for example was mean to his family due to bad mood because of his failure in video game it would be much worse than punching a dummy a few times. (funnily this is what happened to me a lot...I am very composed person but if you get pissed your mood will worsen no matter how good you are at controlling your emotions). So I guess its not really okay, you still are not making progress to learn to not get it to you or something...but we all know RL can be extremely frustrating at times, and frustration means he wants to improve and is working on himself. So...props to that I guess!
