It improved a lot during the last 10 years compared to Varna. Their mayor is much more active and has done more especially when it comes to infrastructure, transport and services. The "downsize" is it being a sleepier town being smaller. Varna has a more urban feel. Otherwise, the Burgas sea garden is also more well maintained and their city centre is more organised. Burgas is also connected via highway to Sofia and Plovdiv. The beaches around it are warmer and the sand is finer compared to the rocky north Black Sea coast.

I have a good friend from Bulgaria and she is touting the Black Sea coast overall as a great place to visit. She said I should opt for Pomorie, Sozopol and various other cities south of Burgas. But I'm thinking Burgas, and maybe I'll check out those other cities as well.

Surprised that you cover Burgas without a strong reference regarding Pomorie, a great, walkable little town a little north of Burgas, on a little peninsula surrounded with beaches (some nude), restaurants, signature mud baths, shopping, and night life.

It’s a great point - frankly, I need to explore Pomorie more. I’ve been a handful of times but only for short periods unlike many of the other surrounding coastal cities to Burgas. You’ve inspired me now! Thank you.

I have been there several times. 1 Black sea is rather disadvantage against Mediterranean sea - more dirty and temperature is depending on current. 2 Food is always the question of taste. On my taste Greek cuisin much better. 3 BGN is living it last years, Euro comming soon, Bulgaria entered schengen zone. 4 Hotels is true. 5 great places are true, but they are present everywhere where summertime is tourism oriented. To sum up - cheap (but becoming more expensive from season to season without increasing quality, real-estate has almost the same price as in all Europe), historical, and .... nothing else. Just the same as other same level recreational places.
