Good review. I agree with what you concluded. There are samples of this surface with a mid base and I was told it is so fast it is almost unusable unless you have godlike control. Dornfinger is considering releasing a mid-version eventually.

Your review sums it up very well. Also matches my experience. As someone who usually prefers mid base pads, I was also surprised how much I like the Firestarter and how well I can play with it - especially in CS and Valo. I think the rebound of the Alpha-Cell base helps me a lot here. Since I have been using the Lasercut version since mid January and have tested it intensively with various mouse-skate combinations, I can say that I have had no problems with durability so far. Even the edges still look like they did on day one.

Yeah, I think designs are going to be important moving forward. Not enough interest for a black pad with a logo. Still a great pad though!

If a surface sells well, Dornfinger usually will release a special edition with a design at some point.
