I totally agree with you. Autumn Joy brightens the space, anchors a grouping and compliments taller plants so well. The view of your cottage garden is breathtaking : )

I work with developmentally disabled adults and we plant from seed. I noticed a huge group of autumn joy sedum. At the end of the season we get to pick out some plants. Everyone picked mums. I chose the beautiful sedum

H Stacy; I found your wonderful channel by accident and love this video about the Sedum Autumn Joy. I was pleasantly surprised to inherit 5 large containers of this plant laying around in an abandoned yard. My guess is they have been returning every year in these awful containers but still remained beautiful. My question from watching your video is when should I divide these beauties' up and put in the ground? I live in zone 7b Richmond, VA and the temperatures have definitely dropped at night to upper 40's/50's. Is it too cool to plant these? Or should I leave them in these containers until next Spring when they make their return? Thank you for your expertise.

I have several types of sedum’s in my yard but this type is becoming a problem. They have turned into a sloppy mess. They lay all over the place and get into my hydrangea plants. I wonder if there is something I can do to fix this before I tear them out
@bricksnblooms2 ай бұрын
Hi there! Have you divided them yet? Another option is supporting them - you can use grow through hoops or half moon support to help prop them up.
@dpo19602 ай бұрын
@@bricksnblooms I would never support them. I don’t buy into their garbage

I’ve seen people on KZbin perform a “Chelsea Chop” on their sedum to prevent flopping. The Brits do this to their perineals in late May…around the same time as their Chelsea Flower Show. However, since the USA’s climate is so different, most people do the chop in late June/early July. Close to July 4th, specifically. Hence the jokey but catchy name “Freedom Chop.” #1) Some cut the sedum back by about half in one fell swoop. Doing so will probably delay your blooms for weeks. #2) I’ve seen one suggestion to trim only the rear portion of the plant if you want to keep your “public facing” blooms and don’t want to sacrifice/delay your potential flowers. #3) Others trim 50% of the stems, but distribute the cuts evenly throughout the plant so that you still keep half of your “old” blooms. Someone made a video/experiment where they cut back half of an AJ sedum like in #1 but left another one alone. Later in the season, the sedum that was trimmed was a bit shorter but looked healthier overall…and also did not flop.
