My son adopted a box turtle while in College. I inherited Bob when Ben, my son, got married a couple of years later. Bob is now about 30-35 years old. He lives in a small plastic kiddie pool lined with plain alfalfa pellets. Bob knows his name and comes when I freshen his food and water. He also likes to be talked to. My tortoise use to loved fruit, tomatos and he was quit a lot bigger and climed 14 steps to get to come into the house and the slide down the stairs again by pulling in his legs after he balanced himself over the too step and wiggles until he slipped and slide down again. Had him for years. ❤

My daughter n law bought a couple of turtles for my grandkids, but she put them outside on the lawn for some fresh air (they kept them in the house most of the time) anyway we live in AZ. and they died outside cause it was too hot 😢. They are suppose to stay in an enclosure like the Growns family have for like a few YEARS before ever going outside. Wish my daughter n law had read more about them before letting them go outside. @@lisaevansthefam2425 Right, I totally get what your saying Lisa, but they grow slowly (like everything they do 😂) but it says they should not go outside for like a few YEARS. My DIL put theirs in a fenced area on grass with a sunshade over the top at about 6-8 months old, for about 4-6 hours, and they died 😢. Thanks for replying to me. He will be able to live partially outdoors when older but we will have to keep a good eye on the temperatures. We are already planning ideas for a set up for that, but it will be quite some time before he’s big enough to need someplace bigger. ☺️

I'm pretty sure he'll have to remain inside for a long time, they grow very slowly. Glad ya'll got one though, they are fun to watch, and boy can they motor down lettuce 😲. Very cool new animal! When you first started talking and shopping, I thought it might be a bearded dragon. But the soil, sand and bark changed my mind. We have a bearded dragon. She was about 5 in long when we first got her and we thought she was a he. We named it Fiero, then we discovered she was a girl but we left her name as Fiero. Shes about 2.5 yrs old now and we really love her. You can name it Sully for Sulcata. If ge turns out to be a she, you can change the name to Sally instead, lol.🐢

Beautiful tortoise and they get a pretty good size if i remember right. They can weigh between 70-110 lbs as adults and some have lived over 150 year age. They do eat fruits and vegetables like pumpkin, squash, bananas, strawberries, etc... they love hibiscus flowers too.

Hi, I am from South Africa. My sister had 4 tortoises and eventually 16 eggs hatched. They were send to a sanctuary after my sister passed away. If I can make a few suggestions for when you make outside enclosure. They want a high spot they can retreat to when it rains. They like watermelon, tomatoes, cucumber and then also succulents.
