Something we are sorely missing today, even Nintendo has reverted to just releasing a handful of AAA games, we no longer have the string of fantastic gameplay packed and comfort games from Sega, Nintendo, Rare, Sony, Hudson, Taito, Capcom, and so on any more sadly, even Sony used to put out amazing arcade style games, or just fun comfort games like Sky Odyssey, Pilot Academy, Dropship, ICO, Spider, Crash Bash, Bishi Bashi Special, Abes Odyssey, Ape Escape, now it's just left to the Indie devs to make these types of games, and now and then there are some great ones, like the Steamworld Dig & Heist games, but nothing like the level we used to enjoy, I mean just look at the amazing gems available on the GBA/PSP/DS, those filled the void for a while, as they often had those great arcade and just gameplay rich games, but even proper traditional handhelds don't exist any more, they exist in the same space as normal consoles, and rarely do we get the great soundtracks in games like we used to, audio is just an afterthought 90% of the time in modern games.

To me I think the levels in this game are inspired/references to other entertainment that was popular or relevant at the time. The first level is literally the island of sodor from thomas the tank engine and friends (even some of the engines you see are straight up almost the actual characters), the safari level clearly references the lion king. Especially when you're in the trench with the wildebeests (only thing missing is scar throwing mufasa off the cliff), the underwater level looks like it's meant to be jaws, the prehistoric level looks like it's meant to be jurrassic park, as for the futuristic and medieval levels I can't tell what they're meant to reference.

I never actually beat it because it's REALLY taxing on the player, even if you have a second player helping you, but DAMN was it fun.
