You are not old. I started riding in 74. I have 3 bikes in my garage. And ride as much as I can. Remember you don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stop riding! Cheers guys!

From Leo: Thanks for all your postings, they have been fun. Iron butt does not need a special motorcycle, but a Large fuel tank helps. The bike only has to be dependable My first one was when the speed limit was 55mph. It took 22 hours on a Yamaha XS 650 twin. That was tough even for a 30 year old. All the rest were on Kawasaki Concours bikes that have a 7.5 gallon tank. They were all around 15-1/2 hours. Take asprin before you start, and stay hydrated. After 6 hours, you go into a zone and the rest is easy.

XS 650!! You’re an animal! I want to ride the concours. My buddy has one and loves it. You’re right. After a few hours it was just a ride. Miles didn’t even matter.

i always liked driving at night for the same reasons. so peaceful. FYI shutting off AC and rolling down the windows to save gas is a Myth . you save way more gas with the windows up and AC on. it was an episode of Myth busters. in these times of high gas prices that is vital knowledge lol. good vid

I've ridden/driven thru Sumter many times on the way to visit my grandmother in Sharon, SC from the Aiken area(Got a speeding ticket or two as well). Love riding thru all the rolling hills and farmland at night, just gotta watch for the deer!

Great trip so far. You guys banged out 980 miles of the boring stuff. Get a good night's rest then really enjoy the few hundred left in the hills/twisties. Not bad on the fly planning. I never heard the term "Iron Butt" until over this winter. It's 1000 plus from home here in Winnemucca Nevada to Sturgis and I usually leave right after work. 12 hr. day/ night shifts. Headed out Wednesday morning for Bullhead City Arizona River Run, Google says it's 607 miles on a new route for me. Normally it's 565 miles. I try to go a new route every trip/ rally I attend. 2018 Electra Glide Ultra Classic/Geezer Glide Ultra Couch.
