Yeah. Barking Glass is a historically underrated character. Ever since he was introduced during Batman: Eldritch Dark #2. I mean he had the potential to be a good villain, but the thing is fans didn’t know what his whole deal was. His powers were weird, his outfit was weird, no one was sure what he was saying or what he wanted. Each writer who used Barking Glass tried doing something fun or new with him but each time they tried they just made him more complicated. Maybe he’ll cameo in The Batman with Robert Pattinson?

This is a legitimately good idea for a batman villain. A guy with no themes, who's crimes vary wildly from mildly inconvenient to devastatingly dangerous. One day he'll steal all the ketchup packets in one specific restaurant, and the next day he'll blow up a school for the blind, and later that afternoon he'll change everyone's streaming passwords, and two weeks later he sneaks into a zoo and kills all the birds. You have no way of predicting how serious the crime is, and that makes him so much more dangerous, because he can make you waste time you could spend on people doing worse things.

@hellothepixel11072 жыл бұрын
The problem is that they would have a theme - annoy batman. By trying to be unpredictable, they reveal that the only thing they care about is messing with batman. Once that goal is obvious, the key to defeat them is to construct fake oportunities to annoy batman - and hope that they take the bait for one of them and fall into batman's trap. Of course, at that point it becomes a question of who is truly smarter - batman, or the barking glass.
@voiddollnero76772 жыл бұрын

"And what am I? Am I a woman or a man?" I'm trans, this joke made me choke and I almost died on my water. So well played. Well played indeed.
@candiedcrusader78414 жыл бұрын
That isn't a trans thing, unless you count non-binary or androgynes as trans, in which case, as a trans man, you're problematic and transwashing everything.
@candiedcrusader78414 жыл бұрын
He clearly meant that the barking glass was purposefully androgynous, not a transgender person, which would indicate that they're one specific gender identity. That is different than their birth identity.
@LuckasSilver4 жыл бұрын
@@candiedcrusader7841 my younger sibling is genderfluid. They're trans. Transgender is an umbrella term for any non-binary or non-cisgender (I just realized my phone didn't accept non-cisgender so I added it to my dictionary) individual transitioning to be another gender identity. Transsexuals like myself transition physically, but not every trans person transitions with sex reassignment surgery or with hormones. Some transition their clothing and outward appearance, some transition with one surgery but not another. Some transition all of their documents and some don't. It's a person by person thing so yes. Non-binary and androgynous individuals are trans. Why are you gatekeeping a community when you know what it's like for cisgenders to gatekeep gender identity and invalidate transgenders and transsexuals?
@LuckasSilver4 жыл бұрын
@@candiedcrusader7841 also, I laughed at the joke because that was literally one of the questions I asked myself "Am I a man or am I woman?" I'm afab transmasculine.
@LuckasSilver4 жыл бұрын
For anyone who needs to hear it. You don't need gender dysphoria. Being transgender (umbrella term that it is) or transsexual doesn't require gender dysphoria. Besides, you may have it, but it doesn't fit the narrative gatekeepers push about dysphoria so you may have no idea what you're experiencing counts as it. You may also just not experience it period. Dysphoria is "a state of unease or generalized dissatisfaction with life" gender dysphoria " involves a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify" so it's incredibly broad. I have visceral gender dysphoria. It's so deeply ingrained I become nauseated and have thrown up discussing my female anatomy for extended periods of time. Not everyone experiences that. In fact, I find it very difficult to find people who have literally thrown up discussing their own breast tissue. My dysphoria is that strong and runs that deep. My younger sibling is genderfluid and experiences fluidity in their gender dysphoria. You know how some days you just want to be as plain as can be, don't want to do anything to your hair, don't care what your clothes look like, and then you just go out and do your thing? The occasional desires to dress up, wear fancy clothes, do something with your hair, maybe even do something with your face? It just suddenly hits you and you do it because it makes you feel good. That's as close of an analogy I can make for an experience that I don't have, but can only see. Some days my sibling is incredibly feminine and then other days exceptionally androgynous or masculine. It's a fluidity that springs upon them and tells them they find their greatest happiness for that day as one vs the others. They literally transitioned their pronouns, name, and outward appearance. They have plans on a sex reassignment surgery that would best allow them to express that fluidity. They're trans. They have very little gender dysphoria, but when it comes it's no where near as severe as mine is. I'm not going to tell them they aren't trans after watching them transition for the past three years. I'm not going to tell them they aren't trans because they don't experience 24/7 visceral gender dysphoria. I'm not going to project my experience onto them and invalidate them for the experience that they have. So if you have no gender dysphoria, you may have grown up and your parents may have taught you that girls can do what boys do and vice versa, they may have taught you to never be ashamed with your body because it is yours to do with as you please, you may have had tendencies all throughout your childhood that lead people around you to say "well we're not surprised because you never conformed to the binary. Whether because you were attracted to the same sex or because of a gender identity, we had no idea, but we knew you weren't conforming to the binary." You may have none of those experiences. It's 100% okay because there's literally nothing set in stone as to what your experiences will shape you into. I grew up female. So did my sibling. My mom has internalized homophobia and my dad is Mormon. Who'd have ever guessed we were trans? Those who paid attention to the years of depression and nonconformity that we expressed, the very things that were ignored. So go out there, be true to who you are, and don't be afraid to tell gatekeeper bitches that you are here. You exist. And you are 1000% valid.

*Anybody who consumes any amount of media:* I recognize that there are certain story beats that consistently crop up in the movies, shows, and games I consume, but I also recognize that the reason these tropes might be so enduring is because they resonate with a lot of people, including myself. There might be times where I become fed up with the consistent use of a particular trope, but that frustration usually has more to do with the way the trope is handled rather than the existence of the subject itself. The prevalence of a trope in a piece of work isn't indicative of laziness, and the tropes themselves are not monoliths that forbid subversion or reworkings. We are all people who, in some way or another, gravitate towards telling and consuming certain types of stories. Truly novel ideas are extremely difficult to come by, and in many cases it's better to lay a story on a solid foundation consisting of what one already knows rather than rely on the random or indescribable to do all the heavy lifting. *Studios, directors, and script writers who consider shock value for the sake of driving up conversation and profits a more viable and sustainable formula for the media they produce than sensible or logical storytelling:*

That would certainly be the case if it was a movie, a book, or a show. However, this is a skit, which has very different dramatic rules, especially because this is a solely comedic endeavor. For example, plot is very important in works that last for a significant amount of time. Otherwise, the audience would have no idea what’s going on. But with a skit, randomness is key, because it is too short to make any sort of story. If you try to make things too detailed, the end will seem sudden and incomplete. A skit is but a glance into a perspective. As for the randomness, OF COURSE it’s random. All skits are random. They don’t have twenty two minutes to spend on context. So they make up for it with their own, smaller context that may not go very far if elongated. The reason there’s so much of it here is that superhero movies have so many tropes compared to all other media. Comedic sidekick, brooding superhero, love interest, even backstories can be easily sorted into trope categories. If the skit seems saturated, it’s just because there is so much to cover in such a short amount of time. Skits are where humor beats logic, and that isn’t for everyone. Some people need structure in order for the punchline to be funny. This skit is more dramatic than witty, sure, but it holds such a good tension of the unknown. And the theatrics, such as the deep, booming voice for emphasis and the rollicking around the stage, take so much effort and time to perfect. You try going up in front of hundreds of people with clothes that barely fit with a high energy persona. You will find it very difficult, I assure you. So, to conclude, skits are different than other media, so it is unfair to compare it to them, humor is different for everyone, and, most of all, think of the effort and logic ratio the next time you want to judge a piece of entertainment. This concludes my rebuttal.
