Noticed when you were doing your barbell inclined pressing movements you tuck the hell out of your elbows (inside of your hand placement). While I understanding flaring your elbows can put more strain on your shoulders, does tucking them that much make your shoulders more, or am I just looking too deep into it?

Two years ago i scoured the interwebs for the best holiday sales, black friday, etc. Found a basic power rack, 7' bar, ez curl bar, bumper plates, and a good bench, and gymnastic rings for around $1500 total. All just decent mid-grade stuff that can survive home workouts until my kids are elderly. I dont drop my weights, or store them outside. Not having to go to the gym is heavenly. I can open the blinds or open the windows to the back yard, and do all i actually need. I dont have the equipment the gym has, obviously, but the convenience and peaceful surrounding shifts the balance way into the positive.

5 minutes in and I’m enjoying what I’m hearing. I’m not a huge strongman or strength lifter but love hearing all the perspectives and tips on training. I will be turning 39 this year and am the strongest and biggest I’ve ever been. In my teen and twenties I slacked on the lower body work so I have catchup work to do, but going a little lighter on the weights, adding full ROM and pausing in the stretched or bottom positions has I felt really helped my joints and connective tissue not end up overworked. Thanks for the video!

This just made me realize something obvious which is that at bare minimum we should just keep a bar and some plates in our bedroom. You can deadlift, clean and press, and arms. And you could squat whatever you can manage. That’s really not that bad for stuff that can just be kept under the bed. You can also do arms.

I had my weight set for years, but didn’t have a rack, so I finally bought a power rack, and it’s been night and day being able to add in the big lifts. I almost bought that nordichyper from FA, but I don’t have the room. I’m just gonna improvise with what I have. Another great video!💪🏿

Great video love your wit beautiful family! I competed in powerlifting from 1987-1991 , then didn’t train for years ( at least with no consistency) and started training again for health reasons around 2010 when I was about 43. During covid I started building a home gym starting with an adjustable bench and a few dumbbells. I kept adding, at first buying more dumbbells but later I got a barbell and a squat rack. Later I kept adding specialty bars so now I have a decent setup but maxed out on space. My latest addition was a belt squat I saw advertised on sale but I haven’t used it yet.

Nuobells seem good. Remember spinlock can also be your friend. I've gotten 6 pairs of handles and about 400 pounds of plates over the last 24 years. With multiple pairs the DBs stay set at one weight for weeks while I progress reps. I can add 1.25 pounds per bell when I go up in weight.

Got lucky and started my garage gym back in 2016, everything with pre-pandemic/inflation prices. The must have for me that I splurged on was my set of Rogue calibrated plates, they were doing hundo pricing then with free shipping lol I compete in powerlifting and wanted to train with what I normally compete in. But for the rack, I started with a Titan squat rack and Frankenstein it with a half rack conversion kit from Titan.

Our setups are similar. Mine is a bench, power rack, 2 power bars, trap bar, circus dumbbell, treadmill, platform for deficit lifts, curl bar (used for light rows, curls and tricep extensions). Thick rubber flooring for heavy deadlifts with some plywood underneath. The most important is getting stuff that can take a beating, the bars and rack rated to 700lb minimum. Don't need super highend stuff but the bars, rack and bench need to be heavy duty. I've had the stuff for about 4 years and it's all still good as new, cost around $2500-3000 total and should last 20 years. I don't even know what it's like to bench heavy without a power rack and safeties, will never bother trying. I like going to the gym to use the machines and dumbbells to work on ROM and bloodflow. Lift heavy at home to get the beefiness. Most gymgoers are easily startled and get scared just by the sound of me exerting effort on the machines. Less than 1% of the patrons actually train hard in commercial gyms. i.e. it's usually just me.

I'm considering adding a sandbag and farmers implements to use to actually start doing some conditioning. With no experience in sandbags, is it reasonable to go for something like the Cerberus adjustable sandbag? I was considering the lightest 88-154 lb bag then if i like it I can get a non-adjustable heavier one later.

After having a home gym for two years, my two big regrets are that I bought a bar with ridiculous knurling (renders it mostly unuseable by my wife because of how excruciatingly rough itis), and I bought a full rack instead of a half-rack (too little space to easily move the bar in and out without risking floor and wall and generally being very annoyed by it)

I wish I had space for a full power rack. I train in my tiny bedroom , to get enough space to do anything I move my mattress (I sleep on the floor with it) and desk chair out of my room every time then proceed to set everything up. I use those loose squat racks you can move around. That , a barbell , a bench , a pullup bar & pulley system and some dumbbells can get you far. But it's definitely not ideal. I don't back squat because I find it too dodgy without safeties (and I don't have proper floor protection too). And benching always has me thinking "what if ..." even though I don't use clips and I've gotten really good at bailing. Safeties would definitely help me sleep better at night. Should just be a couple more years of this until I get my own place and then I'll look into buying a proper rack:) Looking forward to the day.

I bought the Cerberus 3 pack without the Velcro, and they are nice because of the weight adjustment. I would have bought the Velcro ones, but they are so expensive compare to the 3 pack and over half the cost. Bought used the cff pro elite squat stands for 100. They can hold up to 1200 lbs, a bit overkill, but they are tanks. Power tower and Roman chair by parbody for 140 used. Buy used everyone, and you will save so much money.

I'll throw out the ETHOS Power Rack 1.0 as a possible alternative to Titan. The sticker price was cheaper when I got it (varies depending on sales), but real draw is that it's a DICKS Sporting Goods item and you can probably get it shipped to your local store for free, assuming they don't have one in the back. It uses the same white label 3x3 uprights that everyone besides the big names use, so quality is solidly "good enough". It also takes Titan X-3 attachments, including the dip bar. Only real downside is the hole spacing is 1", so no fine adjustments if that's a need. It was a bit too tall for my space, but I just cut the top 4" off the uprights with an angle grinder and spray painted over the naked steel. It's held up to two humid ass NC summer/winter cycles on my covered deck, with a bit of spray paint touch ups on any nicks in the powder coat. Worth looking into if you're pricing out a new set up

Bromley needs to actually write the “barbell only” program. It would be interesting to see someone actually attempt it. I guess it’s pretty close to Atlaspowershrugged.
