Although not helpful to players playing the game now. At the time of release the game came with a fold out map inside it's cover along with the manual. This fold out map normally has locations of interest such as the weapons vendors, purchase-able safe houses, ect.

This guy is hopeless lol. He saw the shoreside vale bridge so many times and went a different direction. He was on the road to reach the bridge, and was close to it too, then he just turned to another direction. He doesn’t pay attention to anything. Sometimes when searching for something, he would take the same road multiple times even though it didn’t work out the first time. He just made the game look much more difficult than it is. Lol this guy is something else

I think games should punish you to a certain degree for failure otherwise it is just a matter of repeating the same thing repeatedly until you pass it and then move on to the next mission and do the same, you shouldn't be able to do that without some consequence. That is why I preferred earlier games where you lost your guns when you died and had to actually drive to the location again rather than just fast restarting.

You can go to your safehouse and save the game before starting a mission. That way when you fail a mission instead of going to ammo to get guns again and spend money you could just load your savepoint.

The game has a ton of problems, even for the time. But god damn... it hurts seeing trying to find the bridge to the 3rd island in the middle of the city going up and down the same road like its going to magically appear instead of looking for it next to the water. Yeah no map is awful. No indication on the map for ammunation and hospital is garbage, but he has a wful sense of direction. Reminds me of the first time I played lol I too had no clue where anything was. GPS made games so much more convenient.

Matt: Installs quick-save-mod so he can save the game whenever he wants. Also Matt: Complains throughout the whole playthrough how tedious it is to die, lose all weapons and to start the mission all over again.

i will never get this obsession to play a game trying not to play it. think should do all missions especially first time playing. it is fun to play games like they are meant to be played sometimes. this game really is better with controller. you get used to the map and where stuff is after playing it for years too.there is also a underground road up north that connects all the islands. would love for you to play this game with the long load times between islands like everyone did back then. those fast loads feel weird.

It definitely has to do with gameplay personality, but I think majorly, someone who is a speedrunner that mentality may warp how a game should be played casually. Like in my experience with Dishonored 2, I beat the first game doing an insanely hard gameplay of not being seen, cannot get any power upgrade other than having Blink, and going the entire playthrough pacifist. When I played the second one, I tried doing that on my first playthrough and ended up being disappointed and haven't beaten it because of that expectation. Same thing goes with my playstyle when I heavily played Krieg in Borderlands 2, I would do the get up close and personal gameplay style for the longest time. I think it's hard to switch off that part of the brain and muscle memory when you've been doing something for so long in a specific style.

2:40:35 I know this run was years ago but i just have to say that back in 2001 there WAS a way to know where things are. The paper map in the game case. You could have just googled up a map. Also just casually exploring the city helps learn where things are but even in this first playthrough you're doing the speedrunner thing and doing mission after mission without any exploring/fun in between. So frustrating watching you play this. It was a great game in its day and so easy and fun compared to gta 1 and 2

RE: maps and bridges... The game came with a map. And the 3 islands are initially cut off from each other (the first bridge taken down by the bomb in the opening scene, the second was down for maintenance). You start on the east island, the mission where you meet Azuka opens up the central island, and the mission where you get the package for Donald Love opens up the west island. The exposition comes via "breaking news" on the radio telling you when the bridges are re-opened. There's also a tunnel.

It’s one thing for Matto to not have the physical map that pairs succinctly with the game, not only is there a map in the pause screen where you can pinpoint customized locations, the majority of people playing this specific game were using cheats for health guns and armor As far as I know no one played this game vanilla with no help. 1:29:16 There are lots of flaws in this game such as the Cops raming into u WTF its like chaos mod. When u gets cops it gets into Chaos. The Vehicle controls are a bit loose and the vehicle feel very light and the environment heavy as fuck. GTA 4 made Very good driving and so did GTA 5. Both GTA 4 and 5 have different driving but they feel complete in design where every car feels right. the Ambulance wabbles like its 80 ft in the air and banshee and cheeta and infurus feels like thet have the latest electric motor and have Fuking great center of gravity. Having no map in pause menu, that could have been fixed while releasing GTA Vice City as an update. and other aspect such as Tight as fuck timer and other mission design where u have to go through 6 phones and ALWAYS meet in the same god damn toilet make the location different or by some other means make it so that is it has some thought put behind it. AND the gang always fuking shot you no matter the time of the GAME from the first minute to the last. Weapon is Highly Unbalanced UZI is more powerful than the AK. M4 shoots like a lazzer. Shotgun acts like an stun gun. Police Ram into u when u get 2 stars or more like WTF this is very difficult to solve. And the cars being so low on its health like 7 damage or hits explodes your vehicle. Why is every gang member hostile and wanna fuking kill you just reduce the gang member with guns or give them pistols or sng like low damage guns NOT AKs and shotguns. Tidy up some mission where u have have like ~3-7 seconds left to make it. rework the police system where the cops dont insta bust you, make them like proper cops not like Taliban or ISIS members chasing some reporter who just got their footage.
