The Arcueid thing is a thing all the Nanaya’s are born with (they are naturally drawn to killing the supernatural to the point of obsession). And the chair thing was Shiki tripping balls after he got drugged by the yandere maid.

True, but a fun part of Nasu writing with this archetype is turning it on its head by slowly revealing that they're only "normal" on the surface and are actually emotionally/ideologically extreme beneath it- turning them from surrogate to a complex character. Though they also tend to get cool, special powers and are generally well-liked by women which does still play to the male fantasy
