-The Mother of All Finger Workouts (3-note-per-string edition)
Warning: Excessive repetitive finger motion can result in fatigue, pain, and even injury. Take this workout in small sections, one color form per day for example, and only move beyond that after building up the strength needed to safely do so. Once you can do the whole workout you'll be amazed at how much endurance you've built as well as knowledge of the neck via 3-note-per-string patterns.
To learn how to use these forms in various situations (songs, backing tracks, soloing, etc), visit the main lesson site listed below. Have fun and remember to go slow. :)

You are just plain amazingly easy to comprehend. If I had your channel back in 1975, It would have changed the direction of my life. This may sound profound, but you seriously are improving the quality of life for everyone of your followers. And if they are actually absorbing what your are sharing...it is a lifelong gift. Life's number one lesson is: "You never stop learning and improving". So at least for me even though I've been playing for 45+ years I enjoy learning fresh things from your channel. My sincere gratitude for what you do, Mike !

Had a random epiphany today. KZbin videos are really good at having names that propose an interesting idea, then drive people to learn the outcome. So as a musician, you can turn KZbin videos into your drive. Find a challenge video that piques your interest? For example, "I did spider exercises for a month. What's the outcome??" As long as the title describes what you need to know, don't actually WATCH it (all the way through, at least). Do the challenge yourself! I've found that I keep wondering what that video's going to end up like for days on end, but I won't let myself watch it. Instead, I just keep doing spider exercises every time it pops into my head.

Love the Jackson looks awesome. When i teach one of the first things i have the student work on is doing the c maj scale on the first 3 frets, using only the first 3 fingers, picking down up down up. They run from E to the high G, repeat the high G note then back down through the scale. No metronome at first til they can actually do it. After they understand and can pick alternating successfully, they must add the metronome. After they get decent at this, i add the G scale starting 6th string 3rd fret. This adds the pinky finger to the mix. Anyways nice job in this and all your videos.

Ooo......E minor! These exercises he described work like an absolute charm because I did them for years and one day woke up and went 'Oh my, I'm a lead guitar player! Take that Randy!' If you have the patience to do this, it will make you great. Take it from Mike, Paul Gilbert, Randy Rhoades, Nuno Bettencourt, George Lynch, Jason Becker - the list goes on. And if you want to get really scientific and experimental and push it to limit, square the 5th and then subtract the Major 9th in every other position while always gyrating between the 2 and the perfect 4th when comping the Augmented 7th in all vowel keys. Also just found out there is a new Randy Rhoades documentary out called Reflections of a Guitar Icon.

When I began messing with theory in the 90's thank the lort this was the first thing I learned. Gave me the whole neck in Em and that's what, probably half of all rock and metal? Think it was the unholy trinity of One, Sanitarium, and Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here that brought it all together practically.

Great lesson. As you know I have played for years and this is a very easy way to learn very common skills that most players will skip and then wonder why they either cannot play like their heros or struggle to learn.

Nice video, question though... importance of 3 notes per string? Those 4 fret stretches are much harder than 3 fret stretches but then you only get 2 notes per string on 1 or 2 strings depending on position

I really struggle with the 6th and 5th strings pattern of the major scale, I think my fingers are just too short to comfortably reach the two fret gap between 2nd/3rd and 5th/6th notes. I've always used an easier pattern which with practice, can be played equally fast! Great lesson though!
