I actually went to that Earls Court motor fair as they called it, the cars featured at the show had a lot more paint on them compared to the ones you actually bought and drove, ah they were the days after 12 months you could see paint work starting to bubble with rust coming through

We had a Citroen 2CV in the late 1970's. On a family trip to Wales once it wouldn't make it up some of the hills so me, my brother and my mum had to get out and walk up!

We went to the show, I have a few photos from there as well. My Father bought a Granada Ghia in 1978, it was just the second one that our local Ford garage had got in.

Magnificent cars! My Granddad bought the Granada 3.0GLE auto with factory A/C no less - very grand! And the ride.. Like a magic carpet.

This was my first motor show. I think I was 9 and had been into cars for 2 or 3 years. I do remember seeing the Panther 6. Haven't seen one since as I think they only made a very small number.

They had to do twelve takes to get the TR7 headlight to raise and focused on only one so you didn't notice the other out of sync.

The sunroof on that Fiesta looks annoying. Look at the size of the interior lights on the Granada!

1:41, why were girls back in the 70's and early 80's gorgeous. What happened to them. I'd be 17 back then, or is it just getting old? Try finding a slim young woman in the street now. I think this is why the Sun newspaper stopped having page 3.
@soundseeker637 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing this was around 1977? What great design on that fiesta...a sunroof you have to stop and get out of the car to replace when it starts to rain lol! And that glass hatch on the sunbeam looks a bit flimsy too!. The V8 Vantage still looks good mind! The Lagonda, not so much.
@mattw83327 жыл бұрын
Yes, autumn 1977 I think. British Motor shows tended to be in October. The mark 2 Granada was just launched by then. I think I'll have the Cortina Ghia!
@glpilpi62097 жыл бұрын
You didn't have to take the glass out , there was a tilting hinge on it as well that was operated from the inside . These were the early days of glass sun roofs and one of several initial designs.The prices tickle me , a top of the range Granada cost £7000 , you could still get a run down terraced house for that sort of money .

Generation Renter - sorry, would rather be going home in that Matra Bagheera.

soundseeker63 - everything on that Sunbeam was flimsy! A mate had one as a first car. Admittedly, it was a few years old by 1988, but I remember the roof around the sunroof was so rusty, the sunroof fell through. Not quite the same ad the Fiesta!😁
@RoadCone4114 жыл бұрын
The Sunbeam was a rear drive hatch when the best modern cars at the time were small front wheel drive hatchbacks (think VW Polo, Renault 5, Fiat 127, Ford Fiesta). This meant interior room was somewhat compromised, especially in the rear, but the car had simple mechanics (even if they weren't very good) and decent handling. Unfortunately, like so many cars from this era, rust was rampant - it really took another decade or two before car makers really started to get that under control for the UK climate.
