I agree it and Indian made HD go bigger n better. Might have been why MoCo stepped up to the 4v heads. The Victory Freedom motor is/was better than the Thunderstuck that Polaris kept. My buddy was about to pull the trigger on Revolution performance’s slugs n jugs kit to turn his 106 into 117. Until his brother wrecked the bike. Ported big valve heads throttle body n cam he was going to shoot for 140/140.

I’d have more respect for Polaris if they would have built the Victory brand over killing it and trying to cash in by resurrecting a dead brand and pretending it never died..

Every Indian bike was better then any Victory so the separation of companies made sense. Indian did well-being more performance oriented like Shadetree Surgeon noted was needed 🤷‍♂️

@@danieldoyle253 Different strokes for different folks. If riding a hideous looking bike that whoever picks the colors should be fired is your thing knock yourself out. Victory styling and fit and finish was far superior than anything Indian is putting out. Might be kinda hard for you to wrap your head around not everyone is concerned with performance. Especially when it concerns a cruiser or bagger.. lol. If performance was the end all be all Indian is damn fortunate Yamaha killed their cruiser and bagger lineup. My Yamaha Warrior and Raider both that were built like a decade ago or more would make anything Indian is making today look stupid, and looking far better doing it also.. lol. If I wanted an actual performance bike I would buy a sport bike, damn sure wouldn’t be an Indian with a stupid as hell indian head on the front fender or 30’s styling.. lol

In the end, it's about making money. I'd have loved to see Polaris stick with Victory, because the bikes were cool and a little different. Polaris was and probably still is fighting hard to stay alive in cut-throat competition in snowmobiles, ATVs and SxS. I do think Indian is probably making the best margins of all the Polaris stuff, just a guess though. BRP is so hard to beat in all the other markets, being in a segment that BRP isn't is probably a god-send for Polaris.

I own a 2020 HD street glide, a 2016 Indian Chieftain darkhorse 116, and a 2015 Victory Magnum. All 3 are good bikes. The vision was an interesting creation. The victory is the head turner out of the 3 I have. And it fits taller people so nicely. Also great handling. David should go snag the rear panel cover from where the trunk mounts from witchdoctor. The vision didnt kill victory, they invested the proceeds from victory into indian and indian exploded in popularity. victory is a great bike. ill keep mine for while.

I own a 2011 vision. Over 30 years of riding I have owned 22 motorcycles. The vision is the only bike that I didn’t ever have to do anything to you to make it comfortable. I’m 6’3" and I’ve weighed between 240 and 330 pounds over the course of my riding career (currently sitting at 250), and every single bike has needed something. The biggest defender being the Goldwing, which needed me to get a new seat, lower the pegs and raise the handlebars in order to be able to ride it and to be perfectly fair. It’s still not as comfortable as the vision. I’ve owned it for about seven years now and it is the only bike that is resided in my stable for that long. The rest of them have swapped out and rotated. It is definitely a forever bike for me.

I've owned only 10 bikes in my life but have test ridden dozens and dozens, if not over a hundred. I agree, that damn Vision was the only bike I could seriously say that I felt like I could ride it straight from the test ride, as is, hundreds of miles up the road. The thing was that comfortable for me (the only one I ever test rode was 100 per cent stock).

Motus was the greatest idea that never took off. Having a v4 that was identical in architecture and components to an LS engine was amazing. That engine was a beast, making 200hp in a motorcycle nearly a decade ago should have put them on the map, but just like buell, the market wasn't ready

@18:39 the 1 major esthetic that I appreciate the most that the designers/engineers kept... was the visual isolation of the engine. That the "motor" of the "motorcycle" was the main focal point as it should be.

It was economics for Polaris. Victory captured 7% of the market and stalled right there. Bringing back Indian was a great move. They surpassed Victory market share 5 yrs into that venture and its still climbing. There is a lot of Victory DNA in Indian bikes. Its been a win for Polaris and consumers.

Many victory owners are upset about that unfortunately your right economics and emissions killed victory. From what I’ve found the 106 couldn’t be made to pass eu emissions. Challenger/pursuit are as close to a victory that you can buy now.

I had a Victory Kingpin with the 100 cu in engine. It was the best looking, riding, running bike I’ve ever owned and the paint was flawless as was the other quality. My son tried me one day on his 103 street glide. He was laying down on it cutting the wind when I went by him and shifted into 4 th gear right beside him. When he looked like a dot in my mirror I shifted into 6th and let off. Man was he pissed. Said he was going to get nitrous or a turbo. I just laughed. Hurt my back and the Victory just got too heavy for me so I scaled down in weight to a 2013 FXDBP. I like the Harley but it doesn’t ride near as smooth as the Victory did and the engine doesn’t pull as hard, but it’s still a great bike.

For myself it was the small cargo volume in the saddle bags. How could they design such a futuristic motorcycle with body work all down the side and once you open it, it’s the size of a small bag. That’s why I had to go with a cross country tour. The amount of luggage space is night and day difference. But the handling of that vision was extremely impressive for a bike that large. So glad to see an old Vision on your channel!! Thought it was a very cool looking bike. And I agree this is one of the big reasons why manufacturers do risk new designs.

The Victory Vision did not kill the Victory brand. Indian killed the Victory brand. The two brands could not compete with each other under the same tent. 2012 was the highest sales year for Victory. Indian came along the following year and Victory sales nose dived compared the Indian, Because the American motorcycle buying public identified with the Indian brand. Where they did identify with the Victory brand as an American motorcycle company.

Sadly my own riding season is over, as I had an accident yesterday when a stopped SUV decided to make a left directly into my path as I was going straight through a solid green. Not sure yet the condition of my bike, but I'm a bit scraped and bruised. Even as an ATGATT weenie, hitting the pavement at 45mph is still unpleasant. At least my swerve while hard breaking kept me from hitting the SUV itself. Ruined my Shovelhead Junkie Brap Star shirt, and I have to replace my gloves, jeans, and repair or replace my perforated leather jacket. My helmet was due for replacement from age anyway. But yeah, my Sporty is down for the count for the rest of the month at least. :/ Stay safe out there, folks. Even the world's best rider can't stop SUV-driving idiots from trying to kill you.

This one and other Victory baggers are just plain U.A.F!; on the other hand most of their cruisers are really cool sleds. I am a Harley Biker but now I also own a Victory with the 106 motor and that things is just a bloody hot-rod sled, the color, the muscle-style-look. The 106 motor is the largest motor Victory ever produced and it is a superior motor than those new thundertrokes "indians"

There's a guy by my house who's been trying to get 6,000.00 for his for about a year and a half.that is one big goofy looking motorcycle! I've had 3 fjrs in the last 20 years and still own two of them,a gen 1 and a gen 3 and couldn't be happier.the gen 1 has 142,000 miles, still goes 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and I just checked the valves for the second time and one was a little tight but still in spec.traded the Gen 2 for a Gen 3 klr to ride the gravel roads on so I'm good on bikes for a while.I wouldnt even go around the block on that crazy looking bike.

I love those bikes. Don't think I'd trade my Electra for one. But I'd love to have one with Jetsons spaceship livery. My cousin has a cross country and loves it.

I love it. I don't remember it from back then but I think it's cool as heck. I'd be super proud to ride that bike. They are kind of affordable too, I just checked ebay.

That's the bike I want! So freaking beautiful. I'd need a different color, but that's the bike I want. I would definitely have a NCC 1701-D sticker on it (Because someone said it looks like a spaceship and that's why they didn't like it).

Love the starship look of the vision, would love to take one for a spin. I agee an inline 4 would be sick and definitely give it that look!

All that work and money for wind design then put a light motor in it was a test. Bore out the Jugs and reprogram. Very cool bike essence of a chopper build with fairing and everything. Cool Vid. Never knew about this. Cheers.

I love the lines, a beautiful bike. Unfortunately a bit to heavy for me, so I will stick to my VF750c Magna!

There are a few dudes in my CVMA chapter who are hard core Victory Vision cult members. I'm certain they pour the blood of virgins on their seat before every ride, that is how dedicated they are to the Victory Vision. Honestly, when they came out, I hated them...20 years later and I think they're incredibly cool...that's what happens when you can't have one.

Glad David got him another 2 wheeled transportation device but that motorbike is not my style. It was/is a bit to futuristic for me. I'm not to big on the 24 HD baggers either. Again, happy for David!

Love your analysis of its styling - really made it make sense. No stereo on that thing tho?

I've had the opportunity to ride the Vision and owned a Victory Cross Country. If Victory'd had the sense to put that Vision powerplant and transmission in the Cross Country, they'd have had real competition for the Street Glide and Electra Glide. As it was, the Vision was a wonderfully comfortable and competently handling tourer with miniscule storage that wouldn't even work for a couple on an overnight, never mind some epic cross-country (pun intended) road trip. Frankly, I will never forgive Polaris for killing Victory in favor of Indian.
