Crazy how this is one of the only recordings of Standard Bitter Love Song #1 and it's easily top-tier early Mountain Goats

Endearing, I’ve seen others do it, but it’s rare. Probably some old school country/ outlaw country/folk artists come to mind maybe. Prine, Townes, Guy Clark.

I discovered this man and the band over a decade ago watching the show Moral Oral. The show and the song No Children completely wrecked my life. I cried so much, i felt the love and damage so much. The sense of loss and freedom. Seeing that episode and hearing that song changed my life. The only bands since then i have seen more live is tool, and jj grey and mofro.

was talking to a fellow tMG enthusiast at a goats show at the 9:30 club last night, he asked what my favorite live set was, we both- near simultaneously- responded "swedish american hall". this show is just so raw and pure and extensive, i appreciate it so much, as well do most fans. if anyone wants to learn more about tMG or even try to get into them, this is where to start.

I love that our fan base is so dedicated that we can ask about favourite sets 😊 I met a guy earlier this year who is just as into the Mountain Goats as I am - it’s so awesome talking to people who are obsessed with the same thing as you!

Such an amazing band/man. John Darnielle is the best lyricist (I'd possibly say story teller as well) out there today and definitely the most prolific. I've been lucky to have seen them twice; both times were incredible. Shared one show with my brother in NYC and the other with my then fiancé (it didn't work out) up in Woodstock NY. Both breathtaking shows.

I love the style of "dance music" he had going. I've looked at other live versions but didn't like them as much. I can't say I did an exhaustive search, but if anyone knows of a version of the song similar to this but complete I'd be grateful. I love this version of from TG&Y. I'm a recent discoverer of the Mountain Goats but I inhale the stuff.

Very, very late on responding to this. But I’m pretty sure it’s a different song. He sings Golden Boy for G instead of Going to Georgia. Somebody in the audience yells out about then and he says “I’d hate that”. He hates Going to Georgia and won’t perform it anymore because it has really misogynistic and unhealthy themes.

sometimes i wish john darnielle would get the idea that when people yell out requests, it's because they LIKE YOU, MAN. don't dog on their requests or the songs they like; you're receiving a compliment and then giving the audience crap for enjoying your art. feel flattered from time to time.
