I always remember the live recording for this one where it starts with "This is a hard song for John to play" but he absolutely killed it on this

I have never understood, maybe he meant emotionally :P

Yeah I can see that. It's a song about him fighting his abusive dad to the death. I'd imagine bringing up a violent memory like that is really hard even for someone who specializes in writing songs about painful memories.

I believe it's the come come to the sunset tree demo, but it might have pooped up someplace as well

One of the most direct TMG songs. This song is sadly relatable to too many people. I wish there were people who didn't "get" this song.

So true man I was going to say the same thing….another one that just resonates with more people than it should, but that’s the beauty of even the ones that suffer in silence can feel less isolated through a lot of darnielle’s music. There’s always a mountain goats song to get you through.

I could watch Jon Wurster drum for like days on end he is a fun fancy lanky man and he gives me librarian vibes.

Something I love most about TMG is how *into* the song everyone is when they are playing.

I’m very excited to see them in wichita soon! I like how I know something like 24 songs. “I counted what’s hearted on Spotify” Those 24 songs I’m obsessed with but sadly haven’t dove deeper into the discography

@@McBurnside6380 i always heard it as the 1st, 2nd, and 4th beat being the kick drum, and 3rd beat being the snare.

@@billyalarie929 He's playing quarter notes but rolling on the ride toms. I'm a bassist, not a drummer. It's definitely not double time. Sorry I can't break it down further, It's been a long time since I played in bands.

Wurster definitely does something a little different (snare on 2 & 4?) than the original record if that's what you mean

Steven Page does an amazing cover of this...and is also a huge fan of the band..
