Just discovering some of this more modern UK Hip-Hop and I'm pleasantly surprised and loving the beats on these tracks. UK man myself but always gravitated more to the U.S stuff (old), because lets face it, its unparalleled in history. One thing that seriously lets this stuff down is that they always have to sing about toking spliffs and having weed, it's childish and cliche, and once you've heard it the 100th time on almost every release its boring as fuck. I'm a weed smoker myself, and back when I was younger it was a daily event so I got no issue with weed its just seems so amateur in my mind to constantly reference it, like you have nothing else of great interest to say. Look at other genres of music where the young breakthrough artists were producing iconic albums with lyrical content that blew all expectations and yes these guys were smoking weed daily and doing other drugs too, but didn't feel the need to reference it over and over. Look at Kurt Kobain for example when he was young...genius stuff, without the childish shit alongside it.
