Hugo's awesome but it's always great seeing Marty as well. Seeing Marty present DOOM to us a Quake Con 2014 was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. I have huge respect for the way they did that reveal. It also helps that DOOM is one of the best shooters ever made.

It's BloodBORNE. As in "transmitted through blood". Example: "This virus is airborne. That one, on the other hand, is bloodborne" Yeah I know this is unnecessary. I'm still gonna post this though lol.

iWillWakeYouUp Typical youtube comment, correcting people without doing any research. It's called BloodBOURNE because it's actually set in the same universe as the Robert Ludlum novels. The events of the game take place somewhere between The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy. Most people miss this however due to the elusive nature of lore based storytelling.

Interesting session. That feature creep talk at the end made sense and made me worry a bit about the future of Star Citizen, which I'm eagerly following but can't shake the feeling they're biting off more than they can chew. Also a suggestion, have you thought about doing interviews with voice actors? They may have less of an impact on game design, but the story/character driven games are greatly affected by their work and the devoted actors even change aspects of the character or the story when they think they know their character well enough. I'd recommend interviews with actors who play games to get a more in depth look at their work.
@cosmiccastawaya9045
@cosmiccastawaya9045 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not worrying about Star Citizen quite yet, and there are a couple reasons why. For starters, they are working on a vastly different type of game, and for all the ground that they are breaking tech-wise, it definitely means they need the funding that they've received. A small helping of that funding is also going towards keeping open communication with the community, which is their source of income and is essentially their life support, as it would be if they had a traditional publisher. They know they're in it for the long haul and that the game will take time, so it's pretty much necessary to keep everyone in the loop. The thing that actually makes me comfortable for now is the amount of information they're giving about the game, something that really has never been done to that scope before in gaming. I also think that Chris Roberts is smart enough to go with the idea that was also suggested at the end of the session for this vid, which was to act like you have only $10 when you have more. So far, I think Chris is making the most of what he has. The moment when things start to look otherwise will be the moment I'll start calling them out on their mistakes.

Danny, I absolutely love that you encouraged Hugo to finish his thought at 14:22. I always love limitations in design work. Not only can it help in giving you a clear direction for a project, it can also railroad you into making cool creative decisions you might not have normally thought of. Whenever I think of failed or disappointing big name projects that had endless budgets and fluid, constantly pushed deadlines, I am reminded of the Francis Ford Coppola quote from Hearts of Darkness: "We had access to too much money, too much equipment, and little by little, we went insane." (That said, obviously Apocalypse Now ultimately turned out a fine movie... BUT AT WHAT COST? *dramatic chords*)

Hugo or Marty if you are reading this I want to say that we know there will probably be a sequel(the whole vega backup and cliffhanger ending). I am also a HUGE Bloodborne fan and it would be AWESOME if you made like a lovecraftian themed level or dlc where you find this secret/darkest corner of helll which is on a whole new level of creepy monsters and environments. Seeing all these grotesque monsters and/or gothic architecture come to life in the IDtech engine would be glorious!

Azra Rillian Yeah I could definitely see why you'd think that way. Because of Villeneuve's track record I'm very hopeful, but there is the worry that Ford is just there for nostalgia's sake to bridge the movies and give an excuse to revisit that world. Really hoping they don't just kill him off after a couple of scenes, I'd like for him to be a driving part of the story.

Listening to Hugo and Marty is such a blast. They always find interesting things to talk about and at the same time make you laugh. I wish there was an hour of just these guys. I have completed the full dark souls series with dlcs like three times, but I haven't played Bloodborne (no PS4, please port to PC because I wanna play it so bad!) and in a sense Dark Souls and Bloodborne are a bit like doom 2016. Sometimes things don't go as planned. You make mistakes and you learn from them. Then you go on to succeed. I feel this was the same thing that happened with Doom that totally blew me away in several aspects. Every time you see the letters "YOU DIED" in dark souls is a reminder that you should probably rethink your strategy and focus more. That way you don't start from 0, but have something to build on until you finally beat that boss.

there are already a bunch of bungie documentaries around, but I would never say no to hearing more about what makes that place tick, particularly with respect to Destiny. my only concern would be finding people that come across as totally genuine as Marty and Hugo do in these sessions clips. Man I would LOVE to se a "Noclip Destiny" series, but I fear it may never happen. Sadly the development of that game had some serious dark times and I think they would never be discussed, so what would be the point of that? You know? I don't think Danny would agree to do a fluff piece and Bungie wouldn't allow any hard questions. But something that would just break the internet would be "Luke Smith and Hugo Martin talk about nerd stuff" Both those guys are awesome passionate gamers. Both Marty and Hugo are great in this, from the first moment on they break the ice and make the audience grin with humour as they set the relaxed fun tone for the rest of the discussion. Quite deep and well thought out lessons here from both guests. Thanks for bringing us these lovely discussions Danny and Jeremy! Oh, and I'll echo the sentiment everyone else is as well, I wouldn't mind seeing more of these fine chaps just talking about anything they want. Marty is great too, I feel bad for him being a bit overshadowed by the big presence of Hugo, I can see that when he's relaxed with friends talking he too has some great chemistry and brings something new to the table, Hugo and Marty work great as a dynamic duo. The discussion about creativity, how limits can really help, was great, got me thinking about how when you have endless possibilities, choices, you can easily be paralysed and your mind can draw a blank because it's really hard to bring anything up when you don't have immediate associations at hand. You can also get lazy when you get going with no limits, and pressure helps to keep you focused often, and again limits also can help you to keep focused without distractions of other possibilities. There's a certain beauty in efficiency, simplicity and making things work with the tools at your disposal, instead of just pure fantasy that can easily be the ruined by using the first thought you came up, with instead of compromising and having a springboard from which further ideas can arise, as when you only have a few things to work with and then seeing how those can be put together in the best possible way. Blade Runner and other older movies have some great creativity in them because limiting yourself to practical effects means dealing with the real world and putting extra effort in making silly props look good on the screen, so you need to work hard for that and it shows, now with CGI you just show bluntly the things you simply alluded to in a script, instead of crafting finer nuance as you had to make all practical stunts and props come to life from a certain angle.

This is awesome to me. Just letting them talk brought out such great stuff. It's so awesome seeing games and movies from this perspective and how they used that perspective to perfect the DOOM reboot. I just realized I look more forward to each Noclip episode than anything on Netflix, I might as well put that money to Noclip instead of Netflix. Love your work guys.

We all expect a followup interview video in about 6 months or so. The id Software team can talk about anything and we would watch it.

Awesome that Bloodborne partially inspired the combat style and was popular in their office - one of my favorite games this gen partly inspired one of my other favorite games this gen!

I love the fact that Marty loves John Wick that much. I really think that John Wick and Doom are very similar in that most of the focus is on very clean, polished and nuanced action where the story is clearly not the main focus, but is still developed with love and care just up until the point where it drives the action but does not overshadow it.

Love the noclip videos, I would like to see another documentary projects for Shadow Warrior or XCOM or Divinity Original Sin or The Witcher series/Cyberpunk 2077 (CDPR).
