I have a mulberry tree at my house, I didn’t know about them because my grandpa planted one about 7 or 8 years ago until it started growing berries on the trees, it is about 10 feet tall or more. They taste pretty good but they can leave a stain your clothes pretty bad haha I love the tree, I always lay under the tree during the summer it provides the best shade and it looks beautiful.

You can use the green ones to take the stains out if they fresh. Just rubb the green ones on the stain.

bob, youre the best, brother. i wasnt aware the inner bark and leaves were edible. i grew up in a farm, and every spring, our chickens would be running around with red and black stained beaks from going after these things.

+Junkyard Fox The inner bark always surprises people with how pleasant it tastes. Get the youngest branches, strip the outer bark off and use a food processor to puree the inner to try it out. Cook it down and flavor to taste : )

Don't forget for survival you may need fiber to make cordage and you can get fiber from the bark of the tree. Use it for strong cordage and you can if you have more available bramble for cordage if the Mulberry is scarce in your area. The fibers can me made into shoes or sandals to protect your feet.

The mulberry pie. During the dustbowl my Dad's family stayed on the farm. One year they had a pie contest. Grandma sent all the kids to collect just ripening mulberries. Her pie was in line for first place until someone figured out it was a mulberry pie.

Gather a double handful of mulberry roots-wash off dirt. Bruise the roots on a block of wood with back of axe/hammer. Place roots in saucepan & cover with water & simmer for 14 minutes. Cool/strain & drink during the day to expel tape worm from your body.

Once they're established they grow like mad too! Got a place once with one in the back yard about 6 ft tall. Next thing I knew it was 15 ft tall (really good soil and exposure). Felt bad to have to eventually eliminate it for various reasons. Some people consider it a weed tree but I love em.

IN A RED AND BLACK MULBERRY for me the best time to eat them is at a light red, you get the sweetness, but you get a nice tartness that will make it taste so much better DONT EVER EAT THE ONES LIGHTER THAN PINK in survival situations, they can give you diarrhea

Depends on the type of plant obviously as strawberries and most vines will usually take root but he just gave me generalization about the plants he grew and were profitable for him. Also if you can get a branch bent low enough, you can just bury it in the ground or in a pot tied to the tree and not have to cut it until it has already taken root! Thanks again for the vid!

The Asian species (not sure which, or if it matters) are also used in paper making (inner bark) and for the breeding of silk worms. I like mulberries as fresh fruit, they grow wild all over the city I live in. The white ones here are very sweet and have no real flavour to them, the dark red ones can be bitter but very tasty. Finding a dark AND sweet tree is always a happy moment and some of these days I should actually jot down what trees those are but each year when out for a walk I just rediscover that because the surprise really is fun.

Another way to propagate mulberry trees without striking compound is to take a very low branch that's near the ground, scratch a patch of the outer layer of bark off the stem and put a heavy items like a brick on the branch so the part of the stem that's had the bark removed stays in contact with the damp ground. After a few months, remove the brick and check - you should now have a new plant with roots, which you then separate it from the mother plant. You can also propagate mulberry trees using the aerial root method - its very similar

Mulberry trees are prolific in South Africa too. Most children become intimately acquainted with them during the silkworm season. But as children ourselves, we used to stuff our faces with these berries and they were fun to pick and delicious to eat. However, as you said, they get onto everything -- clothes hands shoes and the colour is a devil to get out. It's a terrible mess.

I lived in Arizona and now New Mexico. I have used mulberrys for candles but did not know the leaves could be eaten. Now that I know the leaves are safe I can add this tree to my water tap list. Central core of the twigs or just the cambium like on pine trees is used for bread? Do you heat the grain just like acorn meal?

I bought a house a year ago and discovered I have a mulberry tree. I almost had it cut down during the winter. Glad I didn't

I looooove the pink ones. Don't get me wrong, I love it when they're black too. They're nice, fat, juicy, and sweet. But those tart ones sometimes I just get a hankering for them and I'll go grab a few.

I find that flavors can vary from tree to tree as well as from year to year. Few different species of mulberry out there. Great berry to know.

I grew up with a mulberry tree in the front yard so that tree is the only flavor I know. Great tree to have as a kid. Keep up the great vids. Nice to see a fellow Texan show such love and respect for the environment.
