You'll probably never see a trilogy and be sooo disappointed after watching the third one just because of a change in 1 major character. Don't get me wrong, Bello did a decent job, but the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz is what made the first 2 Mummy movies so special. I mean you can see them literally grow together in marriage from The Mummy to The Mummy Returns. In the Mummy, Evelyn is a shy, scared and almost naive Librarian. Rick is a bad bad dude that knows his treasure. Well in The Mummy Returns, after they've been married, Evelyn has learned how to actually fight and take care of herself thanks to Rick. Rick meanwhile is still a bad bad dude, but he's more into the archeological side of things instead of just treasure. They became more like each other and it's evident from the first to the second one. That ends with The Mummy 3 though and it is sad. 2 hours or so of Marie Bello can't possible replace over 4 hours of Rachel Weisz. In fact, there's not any chemistry between Fraser and Bello. Feels weird to even see him kiss her. Just not the same and to be honest it kills the franchise. Should of ended with the second one. Not sure if even Weisz could of saved this one because it has a ton of other issues that makes it average at best, but one thing is for certain, it was doooooomed without her in it. That's the impact she had of the franchise.

We all prefer Rachel Weisz instead of Maria Bello. We already knew who Evy is in the first 2 Mummy films. The third one we don't know her anymore, she's like a different woman that Rick have married with. It's like Evy wasn't in the third mummy film. Just a different woman.

That was the idea sort of. Maria Bello said the character was written very differently. She said Rachel's character was like Audrey Hepburn and her character was like Catharine Hepburn at 40. She said it was a different character though she had the same name. She has a 21 year old son and stuck in 20 year marriage bored out of her mind. She is also an author struggling with writers block because if she has not lived she cannot write about and romance from the first two movies has gone stale and they must rekindle there romance through adventure.

Your new Evie is done), to see if you like Reese as Evie just because she's younger than her, or you feel heartbroken when Weisz didn't return. Bon appetit. PD: If you continue to sin of being open-minded to that pointless change, go watch "Power Rangers" instead, so you can see how they recast constantly, season by season.

Owned a copy of DVD of the 3rd film for more than a decade, but never dared to watch it, until today. To be honest I procrastinasted mainly because of the replacement of the leading actress. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz had an excellent chemistry in the first 2 films. To me the series ended with the 2nd film. This movie was a joke. An utter disaster. Never have seen a film that's more disappointing. It hurts more because the first 2 were so good and a childhood nostalgia. Also the leading lady's replacement for whatever reason made it far less interesting to watch. The storyline seemed very thin and unbarable. Overall this movie killed a potential continuation of the series. Oh and I destroyed the DVD just before posting this comment.

Rachel Weisz was painfully missing in the 3rd Mummy movie. Her and Brendan Fraser had a delightful bond and chemistry with one another on screen in the 1st & 2nd Mummy movie. You cannot replace Rachel, it just doesn't work when you take away the original characters. Do I hate Mummy 3? No. Do I love it? No. Did I think it was a disappointing movie? Unfortunately yes. The story wasn't compelling, not very interesting yet the action sequences are alright. Jet Li is redeemable as the villian, he did fine. The comedy doesn't work well, plus it feels like a longer movie, despite its the shortest run time of 1H, 46M than the 1st and the 2nd mummy movie. The pacing is quite bad, you have to wait a little while before anything much happens in the movie. I'd give the movie a C- Grade

I like the film quite a bit. People overthink this movie its just plain stupid fun. They were not trying to replace Rachel they wrote the character completely differently and Maria played it differently. Maria always said its different character with the same name. Its more of what we got in 1 and 2 its just set in China. Also I think people give this film low grades because Rachel is not in it but that's my opinion. Rachel was my least favorite. Brendan Fraser and John Hannah were the only two I cared about.

Matthew Bennett i'm glad you like the film, I didn't mind it as much over the years. Maria did alright, I just hoped they would've had Rachel back. I think people bash the movie too much more than they need too, I thought it was just okay. I'd say the pacing does drag for the first 30 mins of the movie where nothing much happens. I was pleased to see Jet Li as the villian, funniest part was when Jet Li melts like a chocolate and bursts into flames, it was soo Damn hilarious I couldn't take the narration of the film seriously lol. Otherwise I'm happy to see Brendan Fraser and John Hannah have a great friendship with each other, it's still a delight to see them have funny dialogues. We love those characters.

You sure like Maria Bello as Evie, just because in real life she is prettier than Rachel Weisz since she is blonde. The day when "The Mummy 4" (set in Peru) appears, don't expect the role of Evie to no longer be played by British R.W. (Rachel Weisz), but by the all-American R.W. (Reese Witherspoon), only because she's younger than Weisz (Weisz was born in 1970 and Witherspoon in 1976), to see if you like her. Bon appetit.

Here’s what I found from IMDb trivia; Rachel Weisz did not appear in this third installment of "The Mummy" films, and instead, her character, Evy, was played by Maria Bello. There were differing accounts as to why this happened. According to director Rob Cohen, it was because Weisz refused to portray someone with a 21-year-old son. Weisz simply did not like the script enough to sign on. Rumours circulated that Weisz chose not to be seperated from her (toddler) son at the time, but she has since made it clear that this had no impact on her decision whatsoever, and pointed to two other films that she starred in that very year.

I enjoyed this film...it was a kick-ass ride with great action and better than a lot in the summer of 2008. The fact they changed it to China was refreshing...I mean you can't go the "Egypt" theme in a third film...it was drained out. As for Evie, yes Bello does a fine job but it is a bit off-putting seeing someone else in a role played by another actress originally...but you have to accept it. The character is still the same.

Marshall Mathers the 4th everyone is entitled to different opinions. My opinion is its the Rachel Fan Boys who hate on this movie. Its good movie whether she is in it or not. I could care less she is not in it. I also agree with this comment I am glad to someone appreciates the movie other than me. I like this movie a lot especially the Chinese setting. Brendan Fraser and Jet Li fighting at the end was awesome and Evie was hot. Sorry but i kind of this Evie over Rachel I do not why oh because she is hot.
