Why do people get so violent over someone's sexual orientation? RIP Matthew, you deserved so much better 💜
@susanarsoniadou35882 жыл бұрын
I believe it is not so much the orientation as the view that such people are weak and therefore easy victims. Bullies are diseases with an inferiority complex. If they were strong they would pick on someone their own size.
@LivingForTMH Жыл бұрын
@@susanarsoniadou3588 You're so correct. Also, some of them pick on them because they themselves are gay but scared to admit it and get upset at another bc they can. Makes no sense but it's happened.

@@LivingForTMH Your comment reminds me of a story told to me by a client who was gay. Growing up in Norwood, Mass. he attended high school with an openly gay classmate. This classmate was targeted by the class bully and ended up comminting suicide. Years later, my client saw that same bully sitting at the bar in a gay establishment, drinking beer. It nearly made him sick to his stomach and he had to leave.

You need to do your research. This wasn't over him being gay. He was hooking up with one of the murderers. It was over meth and money. This is a perfect example of how people take a story and change the narrative to push an agenda and then it becomes truth. He was keeping secret his HIV diagnosis. Matthew Shepard was not a saint or a martyr.😂

I know. I was in Kindergarden when this crime happened back in 1998. There was nothing I could do. People can call this a senseless murder but between you and me, I call this a straight up Hate Crime. Those two thugs lying to Matthew that they were gay proves to me that they ON PURPOSELY manipulated Matthew's trust to bully him just because of his sexuality. I know Matthew did not put the moves those two. Those two thugs saying that Matthew tried to harass them is a LIE. It's a lie they told to the investigators so they would not have more charges placed against them. We all know the truth though.

I'll never forget this story for as long as I live. Matthew was just 6 months older than I am. Just listening you describe this brings back the pain, grief, and stress of those days. I was in college dating another woman at the time. We could NOT be "out" in public in those days. We were both living with our parents and couldn't be out to them either. We spent a lot of time hanging out in the woods at night, dark restaurants, and dark movie theaters so we could hold hands and snuggle safely. We sent coded love letters and poems to each other. Dating in the closet is absolutely exhausting and miserable. Crime against LGBT+ spiked all over the country for over a year after Matthew's death and during the trial. This case just broke us all in the LGBT+ community. We couldn't take it anymore. There were candlelight vigils all over the world held for Matthew, and this was the case that finally garnered the attention necessary for us to look at the barbaric "gay panic defense" and FINALLY dispense with it. Society was finally forced to reckon with the fact LGBT+ members are HUMAN BEINGS and we didn't deserve violence and death for simply LIKING people. Matthew was a brave, BRAVE soul. He didn't hide who he was in a time where being Out was EXCEPTIONALLY dangerous but MOST needed. It came out that he had been raped in 1995 and was coping with being a survivor of that, and he was also HIV positive (his mom found out when he was in the hospital in a coma). He faced an astronomical amount of violence and shit in his short life. And by all accounts he STILL remained a kind, friendly, open, and loving person. That, dear friends, is what a REAL bonafide badass with incredible strength of character is. For you younger LGBT+ and our allies, I am so, SO proud of you and your willingness to lift the rainbow flag, and all the beautiful flags for our trans and NB siblings that have been created since. I hope wherever Matt is now, he's able to see that and smile. Thank you for your work creating this video, Lamont. Your passion and love for humanity is Jesus's own.

Hey Lamont, I forgot to mention that Russell Henderson's mother, Cindy Dixon, was murdered just after Matthew's death. I remember reading about it.

"His cheeks were clean because his tears washed them." That makes me want to cry for him more. He was killed for no good reason.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this was a hate crime from start to finish! Poor guy never stood a chance! Two assholes against one small man!! Wow, a whole group of losers! I love your channel and your compassion!

RIP Matthew, it makes me so angry all the ignorance and intolerance of humans. The words they used have a different definition, their actions were of pure evil. I hope one day society will grow to be a better place. May Matthew find the peace he so deserves
