Legit! In one story, there was a physical threat that Sherlock and Watson had to deal with, a dangerous one as well, and Sherlock just told Watson to get his gun and that was portrayed as more then enough to take down the upcoming threat. Like Watson with his gun was all they needed. They were going up against a *well known murderer by the way…*

It’s also strange because in the original show from 1982 Sherlock doesn’t see Watson as dumb at all. Watson is his best friend and he LOVED confiding with him during the case. He explains things to Watson and the viewers because he enjoyed giving the clues to Watson and letting him piece it together alongside him. There’s even a great scene from one episode where the episode starts with Watson and Sherlock at the hairdressers and Watson uses the techniques he’s learned from Sherlock to piece together that the reason Sherlock was at the hairdressers was because he was kicked out by the housekeeper. And Sherlock LOVES it. He asks Watson questions and how he figured it out, literally saying “WhatEVER do you mean, old chum?” Like the sassy old man he is. And he loves that Watson is learning. Look it up, it’s a great scene!

It's inaccurate, but it's more satisfying to have the mad genius playing off the bumbling loyal companion. And think about it; there's already a lot of complaining about how the Sherlock Holmes books have only one single intelligent woman in them. If the two main characters were equally smart there'd be protests lining the studios.

Watson was the author Sir Conan Doyle’s self insert character. All the stories were written from his perspective, and you can imagine he felt pretty dumb in the presence of Holmes.

Look at books with the monocle: Burn every book: prod everything with burning-logs; fire-poker things on the ceiling: try-this, one-hand holds something the narrator spoke-of whilst the other-hand drinks or smokes simultaneously; timed with the narration, whereas you'd previously seen purple, maybe a cut-scene happens.
