That John didn't protect Sherri was a huge factor in her murder. I read that he dismissed her complaints, the stalkings, the threats. It was a huge betrayal and I don't think highly of John's charachter. Sherri deserved so much more. She was an exceptional person.

@@Stoneabba9999. Yes Lazarus was reported as a disgruntled ex but the police department didn’t even try to rule her out. No wonder Sherri’s Dad thought there was a cover up. John also knew it was Stephanie. If her parents knew, there’s no way he didn’t.

Charl122 John didn’t lead Steph on - he did sleep with her the prior summer at her request though. Steph had to have already known it was over between she and John. John definitely should have protected Sherri more and they should have considered moving away but not sure if John standing up to Steph would have helped.

The police never believed Sherri's parents either when told the cops that Sherri had a stalker. They just kept saying it was a burglary gone wrong. They never ever looked into it thoroughly. What a total disgrace the police were. Absolute disgrace.

Great episode. This happened back in the corrupt days of LAPD where they always covered for their officers. Also, a bite mark is like a fingerprint. No 2 are the same. The detectives could have checked for her dental records if for anything, to rule her out. I was more pissed at the husband dismissing his wife like that.

Another fantastic episode, Avery! John made a lot of bad decisions that unfortunately led to the death of his beloved wife. I can say though, that lots of men and women make critical mistakes with their Exes, having a huge blind spot for someone that this person from their past. It's always infuriating to watch someone fall down that rabbit hole. None exemplify this more than John. Keep up the amazing work, Avery! ~ Methos

Holding cops accountable in 2023 is something that rarely happens, even with body cam and people able to record cops with smartphones, and social media and 24 hr news cycles making information so easily shared amongst the public. So… can you imagine how difficult it was back in the 80’s?? Cops probably felt untouchable, and they probably laughed in the face of Sherri’s family when they accused a fellow cop. Edit: also worth noting is the LAPD hasn’t exactly been the beacon of honest and proper policing.

John probably enjoyed the attention he got from Stephanie. He probably got an ego boost from her obsessive conduct and that's why he allowed it to continue, and even fostered it. He had to have known that Stephanie killed Sherri, and he probably felt partially responsible in that his actions over a long period contributed to the whole thing. And if the LAPD insisted that Stephanie was innocent, that was fine for him because it would ensure the whole world would not know how he helped get his wife murdered.

I don't think that there is any real reason to think that Stephanie Lazarus did this. The kind of stalking that she engaged in is fairly normal in that kind of situation. It is very clear that John murdered Sherri in order to be with Stephanie. Once they were together, the relationship started to fall apart. If you watch the interview with Stephanie, you see that she barely recalls John and is quite over him. It really sucks that this innocent woman is doing hard time for John.
