The Museum of RAF Firefighting - an insight by the founder Steve Shirley filmed on 22 Sept 2019.

The Museum of RAF Firefighting is based at Normanby Enterprise Park Scunthorpe North Lincs. A must see display of 52 military and local authority appliances housed in an exquisite 85,000 sq ft building, along with a potential of displaying a further 20,000 exhibits, Steve Shirley the founder and chairman is aiming for the facility to become the largest National Fire Museum of England.

Have fond memories of the Manston museum. Steve was the instructor on my basic Firefighter course BF08/98.

I was there on that day myself l spotted a few of my old fire mates on video Les Badmin, Mick Fishburn, Ray Fearnley and Chris Haughton. A great day it was as well thanks you Steve and your volunteers for everything you do.

I met WO Shirley at Scampton a few years ago when I was an SAC Medic there, extremely nice chap. I had no idea this has moved to Scunthorpe so I’ll be checking this place out soon!

My farther was an auxiliary fireman at 14 MU RAF Carlisle and had to attend courses at Manston every few years back in the late 60,s for two weeks. If there is any information about the courses they used to run I would be very interested indeed. His name was William Thompson. Back in the days before health and safety my sister and I were given a "blues and twos" ride in the fire engine at 14 MU when my farther got his long service medal. I also remember the Hawker Hunter hate guardian just beside the entrance. Is there anyone out there with information? I would love to know what went on there.
