I don't understand how this composer doesn't make 3-4 movie scores every year. He is one of the most talented composer of the last decade. Completely underrated.

I agree I love his music and used some of it in TV shows I directed for Dutch TV. So my way of paying back through royalties.

Indeed. I discovered him very recently, and I very honestly think he's one of the most talented composers I have ever heard.

This type of behind-the-daw content with talent this good is all too rare. Thank you Spitfire. Please much more of this! Would love to get inside his score for Nocturnal Animals. One of my favourites!

I am an advocate of very minimalist DAW session, at the end of the day one does not need hundreds or thousands of tracks in a session, if the story can be told with just a handful of them. Also, as Abel showed, there are always ways to make the sound bigger with very few elements

Incredible! Loved the part where Mr. Korzeniowski showed the muted parts that didn't make it to the final version of "Teacher". It really shows how important it is to take a few steps back and look at your work from a different perspective, even if subtracting particular elements seems counterintuitive at first.

running virtual instruments and samplers back into real world spaces, pretty much like reamping into guitar amps and bass amps is a great win, i have used everything from the inside of a washing machine using a phone as playback and the bathroom, kitchen, car parks (big blue tooth speaker and xy mics) the fender blues amp and its nice spring reverb. The score here is wonderfully thought out, Abel has a very detailed approach to composing, really good watch.

What a frickin' gift to have such a masterful, busy composer share his process and insights with us! Thank you Mr. Korzeniowski & Spitfire! So freeing to see even an experienced composer embrace experimentation, yet inspiring to see him severely cull to sculpt things down to the essence. When things are so spare, one notices every subtle shift in emotion & timing. Abel Korzeniowski is truly one of my all time favorite composers. I enjoyed the restrained tone of this... which is a departure from the many lavish highly dramatic scores he's done.

As much as I love Abel's work and consider him to be a Class A composer, I find it incredible that the emotions that he tries to convey (defeat and disappointment at the very end for example) don't work for me. (ymmv) Specially in that last scene with that moving Phillip Glass kind of piano and the dissonances on top. A change of instrumentation and something sadder and ethereal would work better imo. And this is the beauty of film scoring, you can elicit emotions in many ways and there is never only one approach. Now, this is still a masterclass in terms of restraint and moderation and knowing when to stop adding layers of instruments to a scene.
