The part where Winthrop looks him straight in the eye and says "What band?" so scornfully always makes me shiver. An all-too-sad example of children being forced to grow up too quickly because of adults' mistakes.

I remember when I first saw the original version when I was very young on VHS with my family. even as a little boy I always felt sorry for Winthrop when he realized the professor was a con man. what's really amazed me was that the other boys in the band did not get as upset with the professor as Winthrop did. I think Winthrop felt betrayed. he had formed a bond with the professor. he had to learn a lesson that is very difficult for him to learn and his age. even people you look up to can let you down sometimes.

Tar and feathers never sounded so scary! This version does a better job of making the pursuit of Harold intense and emotional.

when I was little and I first saw the original 1962 movie I could not understand why Winthrop wss so upset. now that I am older I understand completely. he had grown to love the professor and had formed a bond with him. the professor was like a second father to him. he felt betrayed by him.

I actually am working on some ideas for fashion from this era because I think it was classier. There are a lot of ways this could be modernized and still look good. I could not agree more with comment. All the way around America was happier.

Notice i said bringing this fashion back, meaning incorporating it into modern day ideas. Obviously racism is excluded from that. But you gotta admit, for all its faults, people were more happy in this era than current america

You wish you lived in this era? The very same year as the setting of the Music Man (1912), a thousand people were killed on the Titanic, and a little girl was killed and raped while a kind-hearted man was blamed for it and hanged. Just saying.
