So, is the music actually printed in the short story for musicians to play?

No music, I'm afraid. Only vague descriptions 😄 A number of composers, bands and musicians have simply been motivated over the years by love of the story to create what they imagined the music may have sounded like.

While there is no "canonical" music, a few people have taken an interesting crack at it. My personal favourites can both be found on a Ukrainian channel run by Алексей Войтенко (Alex Voytenko)... - one is a cello solo - kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4PTk5SlfrR9oKs - the other is a double bass solo - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2aUfJyBl997nrM There's also an orchestral piece composed by Graham Plowman (who specializes in Cthulhu/Gothic horror compositions)... kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6fUaJWlf9iKiZI There's a reading of the story using music written by the American composer Raymond Wilding-White; fascinating stuff... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2m7aaxji8iKm5Y In 1981, the Belgian ProgRock group "Univers Zero" released their album "Ceux du dehors", which includes the track "La Musique d'Erich Zann". The band members read the short story whilst in the studio, then recorded a collective group improvisation... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpvFeomkpLugrJY Finally, the German ambient group "Forma Tadre" released a 13-track album titled "The Music of Erich Zann" in 2008. I have no idea if you can do these fantastic, wonderful female writers, but I would LOVE to hear you read/perform any ANGELA CARTER &/or MARGARET ATWOOD short stories; for these wombans are so incredibly talented in creating a twisted, unusual, queer environment in which old characters are caught in new plots that teach us modern, immoral mankind fools stripped down proofs of natural animalism among & spiritual webbing inside us, so eloquently building line by line folkloric architecture, to appreciate hundreds of years beyond the beginning of dried ink. By hand or machine, Angela Carter & Margaret Atwood both communicate to us those things hidden in the depths of our common archetypal subconscious, ink of worldly origins other, wise, & entertaining. Please add these two writers to your performance list, so that their names might reach an audience, who do not realize that their soul seeks such written work as that that copies down dictation from the marrow of our communal bones. ☠️ Thank you for all your dedication & delightful entertainments uploaded to the World Wide Web.🕸️🕷️🖤🩶🤍❣️
