Great work Mr. Birkett, it's all true, I promise! Lego Island will live on for generations to come.

Just wanted to say thanks for being a part of my childhood. Lego Island was one of the first video games I ever played. Pretty awesome to see how far Lego games have come at this point. I'm 22 now so this game was slightly out of my generation, but it still shaped me into the gamer I am today, I love exploring RPGs and to this day still play Lego games. I know at the time you guys thought it would be a relatively small job, but it's pretty great to see how much of an impact Lego Island has had on the evolution of free roam games!

I should point out that the "dreadful endings" music was played by Polkacide. Beginning at around 22:00. That band is crazy, that's why we liked them.

I can't believe there is such a professional documentary dedicated to Lego Island! As a big fan of this game, I'm really impressed.

I genuinely think of the first lego island more as a piece of art than a video game.

It's really cool that Mark Mothersbaugh was brought in to do the music for The Lego movie when it came out. His influences and sensibilities have so much overlap with Lorin Nelson and it feels like an extension of the philosophy that was brought to lego island.

Joel, you have done a great service to the LEGO Island community with this documentary. This game founded my appreciation for jazz, latin, and blues music and it continues to influence me as a musician to this day. Thank you, and thank you to all who contributed to this treasure of a game.

"We weren't always drinking beer and smoking pot. But often we were." This explains so much lol. Amazing video! I love hearing these stories from the creators. You can tell a lot of heart and soul went into this game and that's why it still has resonance today.

10/10 doc! How did you capture such good audio for the interviews? I wonder was it skype/discord or did you have them record and send back? :D
@birkettmedia11 ай бұрын
Thank you! So, I Skyped my wonderful participants which is kind of funny to think now since it was probably the last time I actually used Skype! I took a fallback recording from my PC audio from the Skype feed (literally just a headphone splitter from my audio output going into the line-in in Audacity). I'd ask participants who had the means to record themselves with either a smartphone or a more professional audio recorder to do so and send me the full recording. That way I'd get a better copy and if any parts did come out a bit scuffed I could use my fallback audio. I'm glad you thought the audio was good though, I spent about two weeks working on this whether it was emailing people, processing the full audio timeline in Adobe Audition or waiting up at night in the UK to call the lovely folks over in the USA. I did get a bit of unused content about Fantasea in Lego Island but it didn't feel complete enough a segment to actually use in the doc, maybe I should dig it out and make a YT Short out of it...
