One fact I read immediately after posting is that Uematsu gets more inspired when walking with his dog Pao than when listening to music. Coincidentally, Pao is also the name of the fortune teller Square went to.

This was such a good video and I’m sure it took an ungodly amount of time and energy to make too. I’m not sure if there’s another essay on KZbin that goes as deep in Uematsu’s story as much as this one and did. Would love to see more videos like these on other videogame composers! Plenty of people look up to them, or even want to be like them, but often enough don’t know where they came from. There’s a beautiful layer or mysticism in not knowing but I think learning details of our idols’s stories often just makes them even more inspiring. PS. I'd like to add just one correction to your video: Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth's soundtrack was written by a very large team of composers. Mitsuto Suzuki & Masashi Hamauzu were responsible for most of the brand new themes, but a vast amount of arrangements, as well as new themes were created by other composers. One-Winged Angel Rebirth was made by Octopath Traveler's composer Yasunori Nishiki, for example! I think most of the composers on the FF7R team grew up playing FF! The FF7R projects soundtracks are so gargantuan, varied and so polished that it would be impossible for two composers to handle all of them

Hello Alex! i have actually watched your video when you spoke to Uematsu and Sakaguchi! very jealous haha. I really appreciate your interest in my video. And thanks for the correction to the info, i didn't know that. There's always more to learn i guess. And thank you for bringing and audience here, i see a few people left a comment that you sent them. I intend on making more Final Fantasy videos, possibly a Sakaguchi one in the future :)

Ty basked AlexMoukala for sending me here. This was a wonderful video and I absolutely loved that you mentioned the adult entertainment tidbit, hahaha. I vividly remember hearing that mentioned from another interview I watched a LONG while ago and was expecting it to be here, and, I'm elated that you went over it, if only briefly! Thank you so much for putting time to this as it's definitely a spectacular video. EDIT: That interview you referenced from 1Up, at the end, is the interview that I remember Uematsu talking about the fun fact of having made music for some adult entertainment, ahaha.

thanks for watching! yeah i actually forgot where i found that tidbit but it was from somewhere else besides that 1UP interview. I'd love to find that piece of music and the video lol.

Great work! I love Uematsu's work dearly and am thrilled to see him celebrated. Just a couple of corrections (aside from what Alex mentioned): the Final Fantasy main theme was not the main theme for Final Fantasy I. It was titled "Opening Theme". The game's main theme is a separate track that (if my memory serves) plays on the world map. Also, while Mitsuto Suzuki arranged some music for Dissidia, the primary composer for the Dissidia series is Takeharu Ishimoto, who also scored Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Type-0, and The World Ends with You, among other games. Thank you again for putting so much work and effort into this video!

Nobuo Uematsu is my fav composer for sure, and it was a great pleasure to watch your video ♥ During it, i've been thinking of Masayoshi Soken then, who is the big name behind the FF14 and 16 ost. I do not know many names but then, i can imagine/hope other videos about Koji Kondo, Kenji Kawai , Kenji Yamamoto :p

Most of the battle songs throughout final fantasy are prog rock!
