Inquiriing mind ,writes... " I've been researching this whole story and have evidence of Robin playing his as early as Jan. 11, 1978 in Houston. That's before Johnny says his was stolen at a gig they played with Cheap Trick on July 11, 1978 in Portland, ME. That doesn't quite work out, does it? Plus Cheap Trick didn't play that gig. They were in Johnston PA that night playing with BOC. Cheap Trick and the Ramones weren't on a bill together until Aug. '79 in the U.K., long after Robin was already playing his Ric 450. I have a theory that Johnny's Ric was stolen sometime in late '77 along with his blue Mosrite. You know how musicians are, they can't remember what city they are in from night to night, let alone the date. There are several differences in the two guitars. It is possible that Robin has Johnny's guitar, but if so, it wasn't stolen when he claims and Robin would have had to replace the pick guard, the dimarzio humbucker, the vintage style knobs as Robin's has the silver topped ones, and the TRC all before he played it at the Houston gig on Jan 11, 1978. It appears Johnny's had a typical TRC with three screws at one time and Robin's has the stamped tin one with 4 screws. I've been researching this rock folklore with a friend and we will post all our findings at a later date when we've completed all our research."

It just happens to go missing the same night the Ramones opened for them in 1978 in Portland, Maine, and Robin just HAPPENED to find the exact same guitar. Yeah, right. Looks like Bun E's accounts of Zander being a douche are 100% accurate.

Why would a guy in a successful band that was making good money steal a guitar when he could easily afford to buy one?

At this point in time Cheap Trick wasn't successful (from a financial point of view anyway). "Heaven Tonight" had just been released and Cheap Trick was on a poor man's allowance from the record company. (The record company was losing money on them at this point in time.) It wasn't until Feb 1979 that Live at the Budokan was released and that was when they became "successful".

Huh. Robin seems like an honest guy, at least nowadays. It was probably stolen and immediately pawned, as is the case most of the time with stolen guitars, then Zander probably picked it up at the pawn shop, as Cheap Trick is actually known for buying random guitars anywhere. It lines up pretty well.

You, sir, are in denial. He says that he 'discovers' that it was Johnny's guitar in 1991. (How?) But says nothing till after he dies in 2004. Total Bullshit.

A lot of successful bands have later went on record as stating that they used stolen equipment in their early days.

Sounds like a bs story to me Robin, if Johnny Ramone says that you or one of your road crew stole the guitar, then that’s the gospel.
