The quest every neglects to talk about in regards of Teldrassil's corruption is the Thresher quests in Darkshore. You can find numerous dead Threshers corpses along the beaches in Darkshore to the point where it stops being coincidence. Apparently the threshers are purposefully beaching themselves in an attempt to swim away from Teldrassil

According to the story, Teldrassil didn't get ALL of the blessings from the dragon flights after the Hyjal tree was scorched and Staghelm set up the replacement tree. The furbolgs lived on the land previously then the tree grew underneath them. There are signs of huts down below the eastern furbolg camps at sea level. There were satyr and corrupted furbolgs present throughout the tree. There were 2-3 mutated / strange fruit/plants (quests) plus one of the large plant elementals had a tumor (gives a quest). Teldrassil wasn't well and Staghelm losing his son from the War of the Shifting Sands still weighed on him. I don't know when Staghelm "changed sides" but he definitely had help getting there.

I think the biggest support of your idea about The Cleft and that being the place where we confront Fandral is supported by the fact that blizzard originally intended to have an “Emerald Dream” raid/zone during vanilla wow. Perhaps they were laying the foundation for our journey into the emerald dream to save malfurion and fight Fandral with this un goro soil quest chain and never got around to finishing it in-game during vanilla! Great vid!

I'm still upset that they chose to resolve Malfurion's plot in a mediocre book that takes place in between expansions instead of using ingame events. What a waste of perfectly good material. Varian's comic was at least entertaining, Stormrage was a boring read. I wished Hyjal was about the Emerald Nightmare instead of fire elementals. If they couldn't find a good time in Cata to resolve the Xavius Nightmare plot, then just bench Malfurion until you are ready.
@kanor13

@@Ryan-sn3uo unfortunately blizz misses a lot on letting us play through/witness really great lore and character moments in-game. why did they need to throw the jailor on our faces for 2 years just to have him be completely irrelevant to the plot? If they made Bolvar a central character to the expansion, (maybe even making him the villain in the end idk) instead of having him yell at you during world quests then that xpac would’ve had a way better chance to have a good story

The reason he betrays the night elf is that he lost his sanity when the old gods army ripped his kid in two right Infront of his eyes during the battle of the shifting sands (I think it was that battle) and the old gods promised to bring his son back to him if he served them (iirc)

It amazes me to this day how deep the lore for Vanilla was. How many small stories are told spanning multiple zones, even if it made for a slower leveling experience. It's funny to think how the old "visit town, grab 10 quests, genocide the neighborhood and then turn in all 10 quests" way of designing quest hubs had so many small stories woven into it while the new focus on Campaign missions and chapters can only get 1 major story through for each patch. Love your videos, keep em coming.

Another link to the ungoro soil being corrupted is during the Emerald Nightmare raid, the boss Il'gynnoth (I butchered that name lol) is located in Un Goro crater. Most likely the boss has been slowly corrupting Un Goro Crater and the soil used is the result starting to happen.

Seeing how Teldrassil's corruption is a prevailing theme in the zone, I think Fandral purposely corrupting the tree is pretty solid. It's particularly tragic that Fandral was corrupted by the same entity that was responsible for the death of his son.

Excellent video! I was very intrigued in vanilla when I first got this quest. The night elf druid (and Malfurion fanboy) in me didn't trust Staghelm from the start so after turning in a couple of times to see what's going on, I stopped handing them in and kept them in the bank. I already got tricked by that satyr in the starting zone, I was not going to fall for it again.

I only discovered The Cleft fairly recently... i think about 2 years now i suppose... However, i figured there was probbaly some quest from Teldrassil that i never found for it. Very interesting to find that its *yet another* area where there was seemingly meant to be something there, but never was. These spots always make me think "what if a dev coded in an event here that only shows up at a certain time or certain day?" drives me crazy honestly!

I remember doing this quest way back in the day. It was so strange, and I actually loved that the questline ended so abruptly and mistiriously. I wish they just kept it that way, secrets lose all their charm and mistery when they are revealed. At the end the reveal was kind of a let down. It is way more fun to speculate about the misteries than actually knowing the truth. Same with the missing diplomat questline, or the Ashbringer. WoW was so much interesting back then.

Great theorising! I had always wondered why we got that grain. Fortunately, our friends read the books, and let us know what was going on, outside the game, yet was lore. I would love to see more videos similar to this, even if they have re-conned or removed the lore or quest's. Esp with this story beat leading now into Cata and then on into BfA and apparently this new Dragonflight. I'm glad to see that the lore still is continuing and growing. Thanks!

Ooh I love this theory! I do love some Night Elf story-related theories, since they were one of my favorites to play in the game. I wish the intriguing story could have been more fleshed out in-game, especially with all these pieces of the puzzle you pointed out already existing within the world. Do you think maybe Maraudon could have potentially been related too? I know the storyline there is a bit different, but it's also interesting that the most lush part of the dungeon is also tied to the Keeper and the Princess...
@Jediwarlock
@Jediwarlock 2 жыл бұрын
Great question!! I actually have a video ("The Geologic Marvels of Desolace") that I think touches on that question... in a roundabout way I think YES it is related, since Princess Theradras (servant of the Old Gods I believe) sucked up all the life in Desolace and basically concentrated it down in Maraudon which is why it's all lush and full of life. While I can't say it operated the exact same way as an Old God influencing soil, etc., there are definitely some big similarities! ;)

@@Jediwarlock yeah, no problem. Happy to help someone that seems to be putting out decent material. I really do enjoy some of the exploration videos the lore bits, etc. There are plenty of big name, streamers, who I will not mention, and they are no different than news sources sensationalizing stories to earn more clicks. nowadays, I play the game for different reasons, the main one, though being exploration, taking the paths less traveled. I don’t need to watch some guys with streamer status. Tell me how about all the sweet loot they got by running content that I will never see until several years from now.

Great video, but I physically rolled my eyes when you described how Fandral was SECRETLY an agent of the old gods ALL ALONG. No mystery, no real motivation, just a grumpy dude who became le evil and wanted to corrupt everyone because his wife and son died. Fandral was a tragic character who provided great contrast to most of the usual night elf archetypes (personified by Malfurion, who's mainly just... lame) and had the potential for some interesting conflict within their faction. What Cataclysm did to him was a real shame. Anyway, like I said, really good video.

What intrigues me about the imp-like orange sprites called grells at the end. They usually hang with satyrs, which implies fel or emerald nightmare. They have no explanation of what they are, or where they come from till this day. AFAIK they are only in Teldrassil, Darkshore, Swamp of Sorrows and maybe Val'sharah (probably remembering last one incorrectly). They would fit into Un'goro aswell and were probably forgotten to be added there. Also they were not given any explanation in DF's Emerald Dream, but instead they did bother adding a non-binary owl... The last hint about them was in Legion. There's an imp called Daglop in Azsuna, where he confirms grells are not imps. I bet designers in Blizzard forgot grells are a thing.

Barrens Wailing Caverns, is connected to Emerald dream, due to a satyr opening a portal to it through Narthalax, or whatever the nightelfs name is at the last boss, the guy sleepin lol. Un'Goro and Sholazar Basin are actually connected to the Titans. Titans used both as naturally separated biodomes, to study life unfettered. Thats why Un'Goro has those titan stations on the mountains edge, same with Sholazar, and yes Sholazar has more obvious signs of Titans. And instead of Aqir invading the basin, its Undead, and the saronite leaking off a melting glacier.

But Emerald Dream was created by Titans. Or at least taken over by them, when they conquered Azeroth. So there might be some connections, though they haven't been revealed yet by Blizzard. And knowing their love for retcons, I wouldn't be surprise if we got something later on.

@@Kevkoss No, Un'Goro and Sholazar dont have connections to the dream. The Dream is life in Azeroth Untouched by the titans. So the titans, wanting to see what they can do, created Un'Goro and Sholazar to study life if left to its own devices. They were experiment's on a grand scale, nothing to do with the Emerald dream. They seem so similar because the Titan Freya, along with others not named, created the Emerald Dream as blueprint for creation of Azeroth's flora and fauna. Then SHE created Un'goro and Sholazar as literal test sights for designing life by letting it just grow without influence. It has nothing to do with the Emerald Dream, literally nothing, beyond the fact the person who created the Dream is involved with the 2 zones and the Dream. Also with current expansion, I'm thinking its more likely we will be exploring Netherwing Dragons more and Pandaren Wind Serpents more in a later patch. I don't play WoWs much anymore, but I stay updated on lore.

@@pokeylope6108 I think you misunderstood me. I didn't say they have connection. I only said that with Blizzard retcon machine I wouldn't be surprised if there was one revealed in the future on the basis they're closely related to titans.

YES! Very observant... I was wanting to incorporate that into the video but it slipped through the cracks. I definitely think Fandral had others on the inside who were either misguided by his idea or were also outright corrupted!

@@Jediwarlock it wasn't so much an unresolved mystery. Cata just full stopped many plot threads in rather underwhelming ways. Marrowgrain just being a poison and not delving into its side properties and then oofing Fandral is just one of many. They did the same thing to Eranikus and basic everything in Azshara
