Having played through the starting zone of all the races multiple times before Cata screwed everything up, I will agree that the Human zones are the best written and produced, with the Dwarves a close second. This has a lot to do with the fact that these zones had FAR more time spent on their development than any of the others. (This was revealed during an interview with one of the lead developers back in the day; I forget who it was.) The Horde areas were rushed, as is evidenced by the fact that Trolls are very quickly dumped into the Orc leveling zones, and the Undead... well, go kill spiders until you're level 30. At least the Tauren have an entire zone for getting to level 10.

"Hardcore" is ironically more chill. Caution is rewarded and recklessness is punished. Getting to level 60 is an accomplishment in itself, if the numbers are anything to go by. So take your time, level in the zones that you like, play the class/race/spec that you like, take the professions that you like, and politely decline the feedback of anyone who is telling you how to play the game. That person will get themselves killed just like everyone else, their meta chasing play style will not save them.

1-30 is so goated an sod p1 proved that. They really fleshed out all the early zones for each race an you could feel a story being built as you went from zone to zone discovering what troubles they faced. Kinda sucks that later the zones just get worse and you can tell they kinda just ran out of time for world building and smooth zone flow.

The smell of roasted almonds is linked to fighting murlocs and kobolds in elwyn forest, because I started WoW around christmas an my mum was roasting almonds and the whole house had that smell. It is kinda weird though

The Defias story is great, and it also seeds the meta plot that tangentially connects a lot of the zones in Alliance questing: Onyxia. Something you periodically come back to.

This video resonates with my soul. I played WoW from late 2006 through the end of Cataclysm. Nothing ever felt as good as leveling through Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Redridge and Duskwood. I still remember every single quest in those zones. When Classic Vanilla launched it was a nostalgic, warmly welcomed trip down memory lane.

An interesting point to note, is that in all expansions, we only hear the voice of ‘the narrator’ at the point of character creation, yet it is a major driver in the compulsion to ‘level’ our characters and fulfil the destiny set out for our races. I can’t help feeling that each new expansion should have been accompanied by ‘the narrator’ giving a gentle guiding hand as to where our racial destinies lie and inspiring people each expansion, making them feel as purposeful as they did 20 years ago.

I get the deal, but i don't believe these are facts. Even tho i mostly played Alliance over the years, i enjoy WAY more questing as horde, it's much more streamlined while still being interesting, both forsaken and barrens club. Also, Stormwind organized? Please... You just played Alliance, right? Thunderbluff race supreme. Stormwing is walking simulator for anything.

@@Jediwarlock I mean classic was special no wonder, and i really do understand what you meant. My first char was a human pala as i always digged the role from the books and WC3. And i played that mainly, until a friend told me to join him horde on other server. It changed my mind on classic forever. In SOD i tried both again and i just went horde, even if most quest were alliance biased, i still found horde routes way more convenient for leveling and city crawling.
@dankleburgh
@dankleburgh 4 күн бұрын
Hey man. I'm a horde only player. I've always unironically seen the alliance as 'just as' bad as the horde on moral standings, if not worse in many cases. In my headcanon, Thralls horde was a save haven for outcast races, people suffering prejudice or similar injustice. My vision of the horde were misunderstood peoples who stuck together to survive in a world that did not want them, and couldn't seperate the past from the present situation they were in.
@Jediwarlock
@Jediwarlock 2 күн бұрын
That's a good point! The New Horde definitely has a lot of those elements and there is definitely prejudice against them by the Alliance...

Do you think it is there a connection between Tidestone of Golganneth and the Stone of the Tides?
@Jediwarlock
@Jediwarlock 2 күн бұрын
Possibly! Especially if Neptulon had turned against the Old Gods/other elemental lords sooner than we know about... then he could have been working with the Titans or Keepers to seal away the "bad" elementals and potentially would be involved with things like the Pillars of Creation :)

I really get the sense that STV was made solely for leveling convenience and so other zones could be left incomplete. The 100+ kill X quests are so boring, mindless, and mostly detached from any bigger picture events you cant convince me otherwise. Anyone who has played alliance can feel the difference once you out level Duskwood. Up until that point storylines were fairly elaborate and rewarding. After that? Not so much. But even in the lower level zones large areas are relatively undeveloped. The huge Gnoll encampments in Westfall cant all be there simply for one lower level quest for 8 Gnoll paws, and the Orcs in Western Redridge are essentially there for decoration. But these four lower level zones really set the standard for what gameplay should be like.

That's what pisses me off. Anakin had been very self-centered and arrogant for quite some time giving rise to his lust for power, recognition and status. Ultimately he is finally fully corrupted as he gave in to his selfish desires choosing his own wants and needs over doing what's right; yet, in the end, he is able to redeem himself. Arthas's intentions were noble and selfless. He would do whatever was necessary to protect and defend his people and the world even if meant sacrificing his very soul. Which is exactly what happened. In the end, however, there was no chance of redemption for Arthas. Anakin def should have been sent to the Maw. He would be so screwed as I'm sure the Force doesn't exist there.
